If your screw is stuck, use a hair dryer for about 30 secs at a time to ease the locktite on it. DO NOT force the screw or you will strip it.
The video explains everything you need to know how to change your key battery. It is very detailed with every step. Yes, I can do this under a minute myself but then it wouldn't help everyone. So if you are a pro in changing keyfob batteries, this video will be too long for you.
The video also lists the tools and screwdriver size you need to do this. CR1616 is the battery you will need and I will explain the screwdriver part in the video. How to replace your Honda Accord Civic Cross Tour Key Battery Change Pilot CR1616 Key Fob. My intention is to help you save money since this costs more than $50 at your local service. Please invest in a good brand battery so you do not have to keep replacing them often. Energizer, Duracell, Casio, and Sony makes good batteries.

Thanks so much for posting this Ken! It showed exactly everything I needed to know, including which way the battery faces since I forgot to notice when I took it out. Just finished replacing both CR1616 key batteries for my 2006 Accord (the originals lasted 12 years!). One lasted about 1 1/2 months more than the other. Home Depot had them for $4. each, $2 each less than AutoZone! So nice not having to insert the key for a couple of weeks until I could shop. Just happened to have the correct Phillips head screwdriver and it was magnetized which was great since it's so easy to drop the screw (always open it in a place (not outside) where if you drop the screw you can easily retrieve it!).

@@SonnyGTA :-) In our world we place SEK after the number like 59 SEK :-) makes more sense too as you dont say "it costs dollar 59" or "it costs swedish crown 59". But on the other hand some countries have still not switched to the logical metric system either so, it makes sense that nothing makes sense in those parts of the world :-) But good to know, should anyone ever not understand :)

Thanks for posting this. I didn't have a hairdryer to heat the key as others suggested, so I touched the screw with the tip of a soldering iron, and as soon as the key became hot to the touch the screw came right out. Of course this requires extreme caution so as not to melt the plastic. Nice post!

I had to use a vise to snap it back together. Miracle of miracles, it works and the key is not too badly mangled. As we say in Spanish "mal hecho pero hecho." Which means "badly done but done!"

My key fob battery needed replacement (Accord 2006). The tiny screw had corroded and I was unable to remove it. Dealer said my entire key had to be replaced for $125. I used a rotary tool with a mini grinder tip to remove this screw. Use a grinder bit that is approximately the same size as the screw shaft. It will take about one minute. Do not force it, let the weight of the rotary tool do it. You basically grind through the head of the screw. Carefully open the fob, replace battery, reassemble and snap the fob closed. I did not replace the screw because the fob snaps shut and I have not have a problem with it opening. A rotary tool is a great thing. You will use it again and again. The mini grinder tip was part of a set from good ole Harbor Freight that was about $7. If I can do this (62 year old woman), you can too.

I couldn't get the screw off either. My dealer service guy told me that the screw was secured using blue loctite and heating it up would soften it and he did it for me even with my damaged screw head--saved me a lot of money. I just had to replace a dinged up screw that I damaged. You might want to remove the loctite that the new screw comes with. Try heating the metal key shaft on the stove carefully before anything more radical. Home Depot sells the batteries in store for a very good price. I have an honest dealer!

Great video!! Glad you had the battery number on the heading! Found the battery at Walgreens. The screw had lock tight on it and was very hard to get off. I ended up placing the key face down on a towel, then with a small hammer I gently tapped a small screwdriver into the screw which allowed me to get a better bite on the screw. Press down hard on the screw while turning it and I was able to get it off. Other than that the replacement was quick. Key remote is back in business again!! Thanks!!!

WD-40 does nothing to help remove the screw. It’s not a rust inhibitor, nor does it break it down. It’s not a lubricant. How often you spray the door hinges? Once a week, a month maybe? Try some white lithium, or silicone grease. It’ll be years.

Well thanks for this. I had to go to four different places to find the CR1616 batteries and got a $7 Husky precision screwdriver set from Home Depot just for this task. I couldn't for the life of me get the screw out, and that was with a heat gun and WD-40. The thing was screwed in with the force of eleventy billion newtons powered by a quasar. Good to see that Radio Shack is still around, despite closing a bunch of stores. They had the batteries I needed! Home Depot had a peg item with no stock, Lowe's didn't have the peg item, nothing at CVS (except some delicious Jolly Ranchers). Thankfully, I told the CVS cashier of my plight and she clued me in on the Radio Shack a few doors down. Small talk pays off sometimes! So, I read the comments and was able to replicate the 'pry-off' technique with the larger flat screwdriver and anchored by a smaller one. Then, I could shake the innards loose. Oh, and I managed to stab myself in the left hand. Not fun, but I got 'er done! Girlfriend will finally be able to get in and out of her vehicle with the remote, as well as set/disable the alarm. Thanks for the vid! Who the heck is disliking this, Honda?

Worked for me! Thanks. Used a little alcohol to clean the inside. Oh man it was dirty. If you have trouble finding the CR1616 battery try your local watch repair shops. They usually have them.

Alex I would recommend only cleaning the inside with water. A damp cotton swab will do it. Alcohol may damage the plastic.

I found them at AutoZone, but Home Depot was $2 cheaper. Walmart didn't have CR1616.

Good video. The screw has blue locktite on the threads. If you have any trouble removing the screw, try heating the metal portion to soften it. That's what the dealer did and was able to remove the dinged up screw head on mine. Be careful though. If you have already broken the back of key fob, you can buy a replacement for $10 and a replacement screw is $6 at Your Honda dealer.

I just got two of these batteries from amazon--and one was dead on arrival. I took my fob apart like 10 times, finally figured, what the heck I'd try the other battery--and then it worked. One tidbit all the vids leave out: you should confirm that the red light works before putting the fob together. I was unaware of that, and I kept assembling my fob even though the red light wasn't coming on.
