How to replace front suspension bushings - vw polo skoda fabia seat ibiza

This video is showing how to replace front suspension arm bushings in VW polo, fox, skoda fabia, roomster, seat ibiza. This guide will show all difficulties. one off the bushing is pressed in part of subframe. We will show you how to handle with this. Grease that i use to make fitting easier is tyre fitting grease/paste, But you can use silicone grease/paste which is safe to rubber elements.

    Don't use axle grease on rubber bushes... use grease for rubber, its very different and doesn't rot the rubber like the oil based grease does. Better still, for fitting the rubber bushes, use washing -up liquid only. It is safe on rubber and it disperses away to nothing after a short time , so your bush doesn't remain lubricated in a fitting where it should be tight and resistant to movement.

    Great video, thanks! What grease do use? Does it have to be silicone or synthetic? Often read that traditional grease causes rubber to deteriorate. Update! Have just seen what you say above that it is tyre fitting paste or silicone, thanks.

    Hi, thanks. The grease that I use is a tire mounting grease. Safe for rubber elements;)

    for anyone reading this in the future, for the front bolt it's 70nm + 90degrees. If you remove the subframe bracket, it's again 70nm + 90 degrees for the big bolts, and 20nm + 90 degrees for the small bolts.

    I'm doing this on a 2006 Fox Urban which I think is basically the same as a Polo. With your help I've got as far as dropping the control arm and undoing the bolt but I can't remove the bolt as the oil pan is in the way! Is there a trick for getting this out without removing the oil pan? Seems ridiculous. It is on the driver's side (UK right hand drive). The left hand side will be OK, no obstruction. I see in your video you are doing the left hand side. Is the oil pan in the way on the Polo? Appreciate any advice.

    Hi there, Use some piece of wood and jack, put it under oil pan. Then You have to loosen bolts from top engine mount. And raise the engine up with the jack. You should get enough clearance to remove the bolt. Make sure that these piece of wood covers the largest possible area of ​​the oil pan Regards ;)

    Google it: "Top engine mount VW POLO" and set it on graphics. Much easier to locate it. Regards ;)

    Oh and be careful when you gonna jack up the engine. If you feel any resistance check if you are not pulling any wires, cables or anything from engine bay. And also be careful because you can even raise the car up !

    Will a cracked arm bushing create loose steering and free play ? Sometimes a small clunk noise

    just buy a new lower control arm, might be a bit more expensive but your getting a new ball joint as well

    Those big bushings in X are from seat cupra models as they afe stiffer? As i remember my polo's original ones were not in X but in --- Do you know what i'm saying?

    Better off using Poly Bushes as o.e are just cheap rubber ones and don't last
