How to replace Escalade, Yukon, Denali, Tahoe rear shocks: Fixing suspension problems!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I share one of the top problems when buying a used 3rd generation 2007-2014 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Denali vehicles, and that is worn out, broken Z95 Magnetic Ride Control suspension. In this video I change out the Z95 magneride rear shocks in my 2010 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum. I did the unpopular fix and I put the OEM AC Delco shocks back in to keep this riding like a Cadillac. I also bought a Dorman air compressor for the air leveling system. As far as labor goes, it is a very easy job to do at home with some mechanical ability. The parts can be bought on Amazon for a decent price and I will leave the link down below! Make sure to double check your RPO codes to make sure you are buying the correct struts for your vehicle!

What’s the down of getting a regular rear shock-absorber? I bought a 2011 Escalade. I def need to change the rear, but $542 for the rear pair is just too expensive for me rn.

Regular rear shocks will not have the air to help lift the rear when it's loaded up. If you tow anything or put heavy stuff in the back it will be sagging with regular shocks

Is the rear air shock system present on the short wheelbase Escalade? I read somewhere that only the ESV was given the read air ride and normal wheelbase got 4 wheel magnetic ride.

  • @streetriderscustoms

The short wheel base has it too. Look in the glove box at the RPO numbers to see exactly what shocks you have

My compressor doesn’t work probably due to a damaged shock(s) will the shocks still work as shocks, just not have leveling feature?

Yes the shocks will still work as shocks but if the bag portion is damaged the shock is probably worn out as well

Hey man are those 580-1091 the same as 23487280? I got a quote from a dealership saying the whole thing with labor would be around $1,800 - glad I stumbled across your video.. I might be able to get a friend to help me out with this and just do it for like $700 for the parts - I've got a 2013 Escalade

The big thing to figure out is if you have the Z95 Magnaride or not. If you have the Z95 Magnaride then those are the shocks you need. I have the part links listed in the description, or you can use this link amzn.to/3XdXlH5 and you will need two. The job is not hard to do and following the video will help! Let me know if you have any other questions

I bought a travel trailer last year. If was fine the first couple trips. I was attaching the trailer and heard a pop and the motor of the compressor stopped. Now the back of my Yukon sags when towing. But the motor sound is there but doesn't seem to do anything. How is that for lay mans terms lol. Will this fix it? Someone mentions coil springs and airbags... I am lost :) I have a 2011 GMC Yukon Denali (AWD)

If the motor is still running for the compressor but nothing is happening then I would say that one or both of the rear shocks are actually blown. You could always buy the stock shocks like I did and install them. The other way would be to put aftermarket shocks on and then put a aftermarket air bag kit to help lift the load. I would go stock if I were you

  • @streetriderscustoms

Not severe. In New England this is pretty typical for the age. Its really just the surface rust of the frame, it is not thin and there are no holes

@@streetriderscustomsany thoughts on the structural strength of the frame at this stage of rust? Mine looks a little less and if I peek inside a hole the inside looks completely black, no rust. Are the GMT900 frames commonly rusting through? I own a Trailblazer 2004 which is rusted through at the control arm brackets but they are known as it’s a kind of design issue. Have a great Friday
