I bought my Mazda3 used, and I wondered why everytime I’d drive my car would throw dirt and little bits of leaves through my vents until I decided maybe I need a new cabin filter and went to change it and learned that for the last 20,000 that I’ve put on my car I’ve had no cabin air filter

Thanks much, the best part showing how the filters go back in the HVAC case. I laid across the console to hold the top one up so I could slip the lower in. Its not a bad design most every thing snaps off/on from there a well thought out process of removing parts. I wish GM, Honda, Nissan would make the fuse box this EZ to get out.

Possibly a stupid question, I'm not very car savvy but is unhooking the battery important? Will it damage the car if I don't or is it like a safety thing?

You can see in the video he has to remove a few things from the fuse box. You could accidentally short something, especially on older mazdas. Always a good thing to remove the negative terminal when working around electrical wiring.

Bro cheers for the vid but a slight headache. After reattaching all the plugs to the fuse box(made sure they were in the right place), the high beams, fog lights and central locking don't work. And the handbrake light stays on even tho its off. I've gone through the fuses for the high beams but they're all good same with others. I wonder if it's coz i left the battery connected when doing it? Any suggestions man? I'm gonna give it another crack tomorrow by disconnecting the cables and reconnecting them. I even then after this disconnected the battery and reconnected it incase it rebooted everything. Gutted to say thd least

Communication codes from disconnecting the fuse panel, clean them out with a san tool are it may clear itself out over time.

I bought a 2008 Mazda 3. I have found their designs are so obnoxious I owned a Honda Civic and so many practical designs blow Mazda out of the water. Mazda is a bunch of clowns. Took me 5 min to replace my filter in the Honda. Look at this mumbo jumbo

That's because up until 2013 they were largely owned by Ford. My son has a 2008 as well. Head gasket went at 110,000kms (a famous Ford issue...swapped engine, $3,300), the relays would freeze in the winter and the car wouldn't even turn over (at about -15C or colder). Very frustrating until I found the TSB that the dealer couldn't even seem to figure out...clowns. $20 new ignition relay fixed it. Then it wouldn't start again in the summer, and it turned out it was the starter connection corroding (also a TSB...$35 splice kit). Thermostat went at about 150,000km. $100. Knock on wood, I hope the 'Ford' is out of it now.

Well I've changed heater cores that were easier. If this was my car the old filters would get tossed and the new ones returned to the store. I've driven thousands of miles in cars that had no filter from the factory and believe it or not, I can still breathe!!. what a useless place to put a filter
