We just don't have the organizational infrastructure for the DNC to hold a new election in time, nor the public awareness even if we did. Party elites choosing is the only feasible alternative, but we'd be completely deluding ourselves if we chose to believe that the elites choosing wouldn't cause a crisis in perceived legitimacy, that would hurt the candidate every bit as much as Biden's senility. I don't like Biden to put it mildly, but the idea that we're just going to replace him and that won't cause greater issues, is pure cope.

As a black person, I am asking that the black voices in this decision be more attuned to strategy than to race since the impression that I am getting is that it must be Harris who has no chance of winning. Lindsay Graham’s seat would have turned Democratic in the 2020 senatorial election if his challenger had not been black, for Graham was completely vulnerable. Yet two years later, in senatorial elections, Sheri Beasley of NC and Val Demings of Florida, both black females, were selected to run in southern states, knowing they were poor choices from the beginning! Both lost. Can we be strategic here?

Zogby is 100% correct that media attention will be completely focused on every move Biden makes. Looking for further signs of decay. Of which there will be plenty. Every time Biden appears in public there will be anxiety about how he performs. That type of coverage is not going to do him any favors.

Biden must step down. Look what RBG did to the country when she didn't step down. I agree that Harris should have to fight for the nomination along with the others. It will make her legitimate if she wins the nomination. I pray this happens. Otherwise Trump will win. The greatest danger to the US is the same as my country of Canada as well - the citizens who continue to support the fake game called "democracy" through voting for political parties that are nothing but bad habits. Half a century of indoctrination instead of a solid school curriculum leaves all of us with citizens who follow along, rather than think critically. The US at least has the backing of the founding fathers in their writing and the Constitution they created for the citizens moving forward. How many others of the founding fathers felt as Washington did, as quoted from the Library of Congress : "The ensuing partisan battles led George Washington to warn of “the baneful effects of the spirit of party” in his Farewell Address as president of United States."

When he first shuffled onto the stage, he pointed a feeble finger at the podium, as if to reassure himself he was in the right place...

It’s actually unusual to have a contested primary when there’s an incumbent running. When it does happen, the general election doesn’t go well. I say this as someone who attended my state convention as a delegate for Ted Kennedy in 1980.

Imagine how exciting it would be if they ran another primary.

Zogby makes a compelling case for a nominating process that is televised and holds the nation’s attention for a few weeks. Hopefully some of the Democrats will listen.

Zogby outlines a practical process for selecting a different candidate and suggests quite a few. AFAIK non of his suggestions appeared on any primary ballot or caucus slates. While I know that Zogby is correct in at least one of the methods he describes (Biden releasing the delegates), I notice no one asked him how this relates to the democratic process that resulted in those delegates being assigned to Biden. He is describing how the DNC can overrule the decision made by voters. I wonder how those voters feel about his attitude.

Biden won't step aside for another candidate. I've learned that humankind cherishes power so much that it's difficult for them to relinquish it willingly. Only a true leader is strong enough to do so, and Biden is certainly not one. Consider all the old politicians and past Supreme Court judges who refused to give up their seats, often dying in office, which ultimately allowed right-wing Republicans to take over.

The problem is several States have already passed the deadline for changing the ballot, so he'll be on the ballot regardless. The DNC could try some long shot legal challenges to the deadlines, but that's iffy at best.

I support Biden. He is like Captain Sully, the pilot who landed the plane in the Hudson River. He is one of the only people with the experience, relationships around the world, and time tested wisdom to navigate the highly flammable tender box we live in without it going up in flames so far. He was built for this time & season. He doesn't show his cards (like a Scorpio) but does the work and has been the most successful president. I've had a 'poor performance' speaking before, as has everyone. That doesn't negate 3.5 years of brilliant work.

This Biden Administration is one of the worst in history, and now we have a senile old man wanted to be re-elected. And there aren’t enough old women, vindictive blacks and LGBTQ voters to stop a landslide Trump win.

If you're not replacing Trump, don't replace Biden.

I know he said he's staying in, but if he's going to step aside it's good to keep the other side in the dark about it as long as possible. That's largely the reason I'm pushing for him to step down. Regardless of if he does or not, and I think he should harris would have a much better chance at winning, it creates uncertainty about what democrats are doing. it forces republicans to have to guess, and plan for different scenarios. It would help democrats to switch because republican are well practice and rehearsed against biden. They know exactly what to say. He's their favorite punching bag. They'd have a much harder time running against harris. They don't know what the punch points are. They haven't tested attack lines against her as much. They can't make the case she's too old. It would disempower the right a lot.

Democracy Now ! -- In 2012 and 2016 you introduced Americans to alternative candidates with "Expand the Debate" and "Expanding the Debate" shows. You need to do that again this year! Don't just give us wall-to-wall coverage of the duopoly -- show Americans their choices!

It was not a disastrous debate performance. It was a failed test of cognitive functionality. The president deserves the support of all Americans and then to step aside. He has done his best for the country.

Bernie won't do it, he let his good friend joe win instead of fighting on. But he could beat Trump, the DNC will never allow that to happen, the would rather Trump than get Bernie president.

We need a strong voice in the candidate to put Trump in his place.

I like the snap convention idea a lot. It will definitely help us shake the malaise the party has been recently feeling.
