I used the plastic bread bag tabs to jam into the 3 tabs. Then I used a small flat head screwdriver to pry open the sides. Thank you the the posters below for these suggestions. They worked for me.

Thank you for showing the trick on getting the cover off! My handyperson and I spent an hour struggling unsuccessfully with the three tabs. We even watched another video on how to replace the batteries--that skipped the step of how to get the battery compartment open in the first place! I'm so glad to find your clear demonstration.

I had a really hard time opening the unit, my fingers were getting pretty sore. I managed to open it by holding the bottom tab down by inserting a small flathead screwdriver in place, then I only had to concentrate on the 2 top tabs. It finally did open this way and I was able to change those batteries!

Super helpful video. Thank you.Even using the three fingers on top method, it wouldn’t budge. Finally went into my kitchen and retrieved 3 toothpicks. I stuck them in (pointy end first) to hold down the tabs (my fingertips will never recover from this). Once those were wedged nice and deep in there, I was able to pry it apart. Turns out a bad battery was to blame for the extra resistance. The acid was gritty and prevented the case from sliding apart. Popping open my other two motion sensors revealed I had replaced the batteries in one of them, but not the other two. The other two had the leaking batteries. Lesson? Replace the batteries in ALL of your motion detectors at the same time. If I had done that when I replaced the one set, I’ll bet the other batteries hadn’t blown out yet. Don’t be lazy; do them all at once. Don’t kill your fingertips; use some toothpicks.

I followed your instructions precisely, and did, finally, succeed in getting it apart. BUT!! This is without a doubt the hardest battery replacement I have ever done in all my more than 65 gadget-filled years, both the opening and getting the batteries themselves out *and* getting the new ones in. I had to bang one end of each battery with an implement to get them properly inserted; I could not press hard enough with just my hand. Total time, including climbing ladder to retrieve it, wrestling with it using the instructions on the unit, finding better instructions, (thank you!) finding appropriate tools, etc., = nearly an hour. Ridiculous!!!

It should NOT be this difficult to take the sensor apart. Because I had such a hard time with it, I deleted the sensor from my system. Now, I'll add it back in. Also, thanks for the tip regarding testing and the 4 minute delay on unit.

Not easy with finger pressure. Made 3 plastic card shims to depress the 3 tabs and pried cover off with plastic knife in side slot. Bled from cuts from sharp center hook. With cover off, used a nail file to round the 4 sharp corners of the sensor body. Also flattened the 3 tabs (2top, 1bottom) in the cover with file. Finally, flattened the center hook. Now cover comes off easy. Used a little scotch tape to hold cover if I took off too much.

This video was helpful but I still could not remove it. those little finger push downs really suck making it almost impossible to open. I finally tried using paper clips to hold them open but they got stuck in the unit. Opened a drawer and found old credit cards and that worked the trick. push one in the bottom and the other in the top to the top portion of the tabs and it releases the tabs from the case.

I appreciate the video, but it didn’t help me. Nothing worked in trying to pry the front off. In the end I had to use a flathead and exert so much pressure that the device will no longer close properly. I’m really amazed that a professional engineer could design something so poorly. What should take 5 seconds now requires a call to the alarm company. Ridiculous.

I actually had to use a screw driver to help unseat the tabs on the top then on the bottom because the thing wouldn’t pull apart with finger pressure alone. Obviously they were laughing after they concocted the locking tabs for these detectors because thieves won’t bother trying to remove the batteries they will just blind them with paint or something like that

I used the loaf of bread plastic expiry date tabs (as per Travis Gaines comment below) to block the bottom tab and both top tabs (you could also just wedge any semi-firm plastic, or even screw drivers). Then i wiggled the bottom with a flathead screwdriver and it came out slightly, then i used a fat flathead screwdriver in the side (theres a slit on the left side if the sensor is pointing away from you) to gently wedge it open, and i also pushed on the very big tab on the top before it finally popped open. Bloody hard though its in so tight, impossible to pull it out just using your hands...it took about 10-15 minutes of messing around and i was worried i might snap something.... Whoever designed this is an idiot lol
