Very thorough instructions. I have a deadbolt that is wobbly (for want of a better word), and needs replacement. I am so happy to know that I can choose new and replace the deadbolt and the exterior door knob without handyman assistance. Thank you for explaining about the long and short screws. My condo is older, and these are probably the original 1984 knobs. You came into my life just in time!

I've been dreading replacing a couple of broken knobs in my house but your instructions make it look easy. I thought you had to get all the inside pieces of the knob put together like a puzzle but it looks like something an old lady like me can do. lol Thanks

Yes, that is always the risk of broken door knobs. My sister got trapped in a bathroom of a house we just purchased, and we had to remove the door knob to let her out hahaha. She thought I was being a mischievous brother.

Frosty Life some advice I think you should change the strike plate so everything is brand new but the bigger deeper screw advice was good

I was in a hotel room where the bathroom door was installed backwards once, and same problem with the door knob latch hahaha.

Is the little latch next together with the big one suppose to go all the way in the strike plate? What's the purpose of this that only come with key doorknobs?

Essentially, yes, just be very patient and watch a good DIY video or good set of instructions. I would call Ace, Lowes, or Home Depot, or even your local hardware or handy-person. Money solves some problems, hahaha! Best wishes :). Oh, keep a wedge in the way of the door to keep from closing and locking you out or in, it kinda happen to me, pass it on ;).

Why can't you have one common key for all the doors? I have 5 doors in my house. My doorknob failed and I replaced it with the same from Home Depot and they keyed it for me there, so I don't have 5 different keys for 5 different doors.

I am sorry, I do not have any idea what model of locks I purchased, but in the future I am going to be getting higher quality door locks that are not so cheap.

Hello, if it's a mobile home, Guard Security brand, if not, SCHLAGE is rated as THE BEST, you cannot put a rice on you or your home's safety, all the best :).

I forgot. My outside doorknob needs replaced and I have one of those round pieces instead of the strike plates in the door like yours had. It falls out and is real wobbly. Should I try to glue it in or can you get a doorknob that comes with the squarish type? That type looks a lot more secure. Thanks

The best advice I can give is to take a photo of what you have, and bring it to a good hardware store where the staff are knowledgeable and helpful and have them help you match up to the best for your needs. A locksmith company might also be of a lot of help.

What if the knob doesn't have any visible screws? Not sure how, but my know will not allow us to open the door, and the locking bolt is not engaged. I need to replace but can't see how to remove

I know this is an old video but it seems very helpful and I have a question. I am in my early 20s so I have never had to do this before. My outside door only has a padlock, the door handle itself doesn't have a key. I don't feel like that's enough security so I want to get myself a lockable door handle. Does the new door handle come with a key already or... how exactly does that work? I know this may be a stupid question I just want to make sure I do this right. Thanks!

Good question and yes, you will want to have better security. Yes new door knob will come with 2 copies of the key.

Hi...great video! Wondering if you can help me...my front door lock doesn't work properly. When I try to unlock the door or open the door from inside it is extremely tight. I have to lift the door upwards to release some of pressure and unlock it. Please Let me know what is causing the issue. For some reason....Cold weather makes it worse. wondering....thank you in advance. Maria

It might be a bad fit or tjere is something out of alignment. Try removing the door knob and check it to see if something is bent or out of alignment
