In this video I go over how to replace the ALS character in unreal engine. Make sure your character is rigged to ue4 mannequin in order for this to work.

I should of included it in the video I thought they were the same as the other 2 I had added. Its very similar as it is still rigged to the ue4 mannequin, all the parts of it are split up but its ok. 1.on each skeletal mesh component right click and assign to the AlS skeleton. So its head, legs, arms all that stuff. 2. Go to als blueprint go to the visual mesh where I go to in the video and select one body part e.g the head, now his will work with the als to get his other body parts working. 3.Duplicate more skeletal meshs and make them a child of the visual mesh scene. Select the approtiate skeletal meshes, e.g the legs and the body. 4. Once you have all the skeletal meshs go to the construction script in the als blueprint plug your duplicated skeletal mesh into the target and click compile 5. You may have to clear the rotation and location on all the skeletal mesh parts that you added then click compile. 6. Character should work.

@@UnrealUniversity Hi, are you referring to the MetaHumans? and if so have you tried it yourself? cause the results a lot of people are getting isn't working as expected lol

How come I learned nothing from 6 hours of Googling and KZread tutorials then came here and did it in 2 minutes? Excellent. I have a question: I'm making a custom character in Blender for my game, but it's not going to be the same height/proportions as the default UE5/ALS mannequins, it's a character inspired by the game Little Nightmares, so a shorter/petite character. What would you recommend I do when rigging my character, like will it just plug and play with ALS like shown in this video or is there stuff I should be aware of beforehand?

Good video, quick question though, could this cause optimization problems since i believe youre still casting the animations on the invis skeleton or is it just superfluous?

I don't think so it was still smooth on laptop when played as different characters, I do not think it effects performance
why is my characters leg moving in idle postion it happens only after i change the messh is i keep th original animman its not happening and if i change it to gohtic knight its moving in idle i think i skiped or forget that

So I did everything but now the idle animation is stuttering and gun meshes are all under the character and the character isnt holding his arms up like hes holding a gun. how would I fix it?
Everytime i do this my character is tuck in tpose i made the mesh a frame but it still stuck in t pose if i load a a single animation that animation works but not when i start the game

Every time I try to reassign the skeleton, UE4 crashes. I tried several skeletons including the ones you use.
My character's arm is broken, but the skeleton itself is fine. How do I fix it?
I tried in UE4.27 and got this error "Blueprint Runtime Error Accessed None Trying to read property head" blueprint ASL_AnimMan_CharacterBP function: set / reset colors graph: set / resetColors node Set vector parameter value

Hey thanks for that quick tutorial (: What is when i wanna use a character thats seperated in differend parts like head mesh, body mesh and so on. There are many character assets where the character is seperated in parts. Do you have any tutorial or a quick tipp for me how to use these characters with ALS ?

I understand what you mean although I don't have a video on it, although I have a video on making a dissmemerbent system kzread.info/dash/bejne/mWhr1rCmm7nQnLQ.html and it may help you understand how to do it as you will you the same method, you will need to set skeletal mesh master pose ( I hope that that helps )

But how do you do in your own level, this is from the locomotive demo itself, I want to use it in my own demo. Also could you please do a tutorial on metahumans in UE5?
After doing this when I press X for ragdoll my literally goes into a spin until I press Spacebar! Any idea on how to correct that?

I always get a full flood of errors Blueprint Runtime Error: "Accessed None trying to read property Shoulder_R". Blueprint: ALS_AnimMan_CharacterBP Function: Set/ Reset Colors Graph: Set/ResetColors Node: Set Vector Parameter Value And then there's every body part in addition to "Shoulder_R" does anyone know how to fix this? EDIT: 5 minutes later lol I messed up and replaced the entire thing with the model

there is a tool called auto rigger pro which can do it although this will only work if your rigging your model in blender or can pay someone to do it on a site like fiverr

Did you figure that one out? I'm hoping to find that message in the blueprint somewhere. I'm thinking it might be a "Print" but I'll investigate and let you know.

not tried, although I do not think so
the character I used was not rigged to the ue4 mannequin so it messed up everything, luckily I didn't save it.
my game crashes each time i do this

this will stretch out the character you need to retarget
