    Always glad to hear that this old video is still helping people. I'd like to make more videos like this, but I'm currently working 55-60 hour weeks and finding enough time to setup a camera and shoot is nearly impossible.

    Da Al thanks for the comment and I'm glad the video helped. Unfortunately I no longer have this vehicle or any project cars. I have been seeing increased activity on my videos this season though, and am considering similar videos on my daily driver, so keep your eyes on the channel for future DIY replacement and install videos.

    +DAn Al excellent progress. If you haven't already, try running the engine when the radiator is full of water and turn the heat onto full for a while. This will help flush the heater core, which is likely full of the same rusty old coolant from before. Once you've done that, you're probably ready to drain it and fill it with the correct coolant/water mix. Just search for "heater core flush" videos if you need any help. It sounds like you're moving right along with that car. I look forward to the next update!

    do i need to torque the bolts on the water pump?

  • @CamaroKid

    @CamaroKid

    3 жыл бұрын

    +vezina808 I never have. I'm sure there's a torque spec out there somewhere, but it's generally not an issue. Just run them down snug and a bit and hit the road. If it leaks you're not tight enough :P

    How can you tell which side of the gasket goes on the engine block and which side goes on the water pump ?

  • @CamaroKid

    @CamaroKid

    5 жыл бұрын

    With the basic paper gaskets it will not matter, just make sure all the bolt and water holes line up on both the pump and block.

  • @RestorationObsession
    @RestorationObsession4 жыл бұрын

    Curious, why no sealant on the gaskets?

  • @CamaroKid

    @CamaroKid

    I've never had any issues with the fiber/paper gaskets alone, but it's really down to personal preference. If you choose to use a sealant with or instead of the gasket just be sure to follow the directions with regards to set time before torquing the bolts all the way down.

    +DAn Al If your coolant is collecting rust and other debris, you should start by flushing the whole system with a garden hose until the water runs clean. Then refill with the correct antifreeze/water mix (use distilled water for the best corrosion prevention). There are plenty of great mechanics and DIY guys here on KZread that can show you how it's done. I hope this helps.

  • @CamaroKid

    I just got this at my local AutoZone. There are two types of Chevy water pump ('short' before 1969 and 'long' after). Try asking for one on the other side of that split and see if it solves your issue.

    What's the torque spec

  • @CamaroKid

    @CamaroKid

    Snug..... In all honesty, I've never considered "correct" torque specs on much beyond engine internals. You can probably find it in a message board somewhere if you search around.

    @@CamaroKid fixed my water pump, thanks for the video. The only problem I had was the long bolt for power steering bracket. It wouldn't catch to screw on. I used a power tool ratchet to get it started.

    if you have taken all the bolts off lightly tap it with a hammer on a part the belt does not touch, you will have to do it a few times and dont sissy hit it but dont go "hulk smash" on it either.

    Getting antifreeze on the ground is literally like spitting in the ocean when there is a major oil spill.
