Good video. But you never ever use pipe dope on a gas union. Just FYI for anyone else working with gas lines. That union's flare is meant to dry compress and seal against the other half of the union, and any dope or tephlon tape will not allow the union's flare to seat properly. 12 year repair tech here. Thousands of heater repairs and installs under my belt. Anytime you come across a gas union, no matter what and unless otherwise stated in the union manufacturer's manual, it is always a dry fit. Then, just take a water bottle with a tiny bit of soap ( I use dawn or any dish soap) and poke a hole in the cap and spray the fittings to check for leaks. You can also use a screw to seal the hole in the water bottle cap and keep it on your truck for next time.

First time touching a union fitting. I’ve been educated a couple times, lol. Auto tech here, not a field mechanic. I’m learning . Thanks for the support brother!

Dude! Wow, thanks for this video. Couldn't have come at a better time. My manifold froze and cracked during the deep freeze we had in Colorado a couple weeks ago. Just ordered a new one.

Thanks for this as I am in the process of doing this exact same procedure due to my manifold cracked during a freeze. I do have a question though. At 9:20, when you are putting back on those 12 o-rings, I see you applied pool lube. However an experienced pool repair guy recently told me not to lube those o-rings. Any thoughts?

Do you know of a video that explains the flow of water through the manifold and the two internal valves? I am confused.

Great video man! Q: What is that pipe and valve that you have angled off the side of the manifold?

Hello. I have an HLS light. The spa heats to approx 91, then shuts off for 2 minutes and comes back on for 90 seconds then repeats itself. The heater runs fine when I am in pool mode. I've replaced my thermistor, HLS and thermal regulator, and I still have the HLS light and all the same symptoms. No rattling or odd noises. It's a 3 year-old heater. Any ideas? Thanks

It's magic lube for gaskets and oring. The blue he used is ptfe based and good for sealing non moving parts. The red lube is silicone based and is much thicker and water resistant. It is best used on moving parts such as slide valves, but will work just fine in place of the blue lube when needed. The blue lube cannot not be used in place of the red lube though because it is not water resistant and is not meant for moving parts.

Well, I guess I learned something about unions today. I’m sure I’ll have to take this heater apart in the next year or two, so I’ll clean off the threads and it going back together dry.
