Just bought a towncar with 65K miles on it, the owner said the displays worked last week and told me the mileage, We started the car and they didnt come on, So i ordered a used speedometer from ebay, Followed the directions and swapped the security board and it runs fine, Will send off the old cluster to have it fixed, Plan on leaving the dash disassembled till I got it back. Also it cost me 250 bucks to get ford to tell me it was the instrument cluster not working, what a waste I knew that, And they wanted to buy the car, sorry nope, ANd told me they would charge 700 dollars to reprogram it once I found one that worked at my cost. You saved me a bundle. thanks

As a Ford technician, who gets paid to program these, I have to say, that's pretty slick that's. Pretty decent, I have always said they charge to much for the reprogramming. Wtg sir..... Btw I like to eat......

Thank you for your video. I just took mine apart the ribbon was all cracked around the soldering on the LED side (left and right) so I reheat it with a 30 watts soldering iron, clean up with alcohol and thank God is working nice now. Thank you for the video.

Great video, very well done. The problem for most DIY's is how to get all the plastic off to get to the gauge cluster without breaking it !!

Thanks for the video. I have to replace my SES bulb to get my 2001 Town Car through its emissions test. It's not throwing any codes but it looks like the bulb is burned out. While I'm in there it needs a high beam indicator bulb too, I should probably replace all the bulbs while it's apart.

Will this work if I’m swapping from a US to Metric cluster? I have a 2005 Lincoln Aviator that came from New York, and I’m in Canada, so I want the speedometer to read Km/h, not MPH.

Thanks for sharing. Have 2001 Towncar. Is it possible that ribbon connector contacts can have corrosion? My displays come and go.

This worked for about a year and then the left side LED's started to flicker on and off again. I'm going to investigate that next.

I like to use dielectric grease on electrical connections to prevent corrosion but came up with another thought. The solder develops cracks on these PC boards as they get older. You can use a soldering iron (pencil type) and some fresh solder to fix. There's a video where a F-150 mileage display was fixed this way. Look for cracks especially on the end terminals of connectors.

Question. Did you have other lights within the car pulsing on and off? In my 2003 Lincoln town car first the instrument lights were on the blink then other lights such as door marker lights and headlights go dim then brighten up. I thought it was the alternator had mine rebuilt, no difference. Then I got anther one that the rebuild shop switched out for me, same thing going on, then I seen these videos on the instrument boards going out and I was told that since all the electronics for the car run through the instrument cluster it would adversely affect all the lighting circuits in the car, Do you think the instrument panel is the culprit in this situation? I would value your opinion since I cant get a straight answer from certified ford mechanics.

What went wrong with your old Cluster ? I have a 2009 Dodge Journey. I think my Cluster is non operative because none of the Instrument gauges nor digital instrument panel digital lights. On my steering Column the Wipers will not go off, non operative controls, I cant control the Head Lights, Non operative, but the Cruise Control still works. Can I do the same with a Dodge Journey ?

Good Video. I think I will try looking at the EEPROM, where all info like mileage is stored on circuit board. I have found you can buy a EEPROM Reader, then buy a Cluster from junk yard or Ebay, take the EEPROM Data off the Old and then transfer data to the new EEPRM on Circuit board purchased . However there is one method that comes first, take circuit board and look for solder crack along pins of the socket, heat up solder iron and resoder. Dealership are ripping everyone off ! Time for everyone to know the truth about the dealerships. Making us slaves for their incomes. Anymore, you must go to dealership for reprogramming for any of the Modules that defect. On the average to replace a Module is 700- 1200 dollars. When you think about these things will corrode since its circuitry in the open air and wet weather. it will occur again in due time. Thanks for sharing.

The last MO-Par that I changed a cluster on was a 1999 and none of the vehicle info was stored in the cluster. I just installed the replacement and the car was good as new with the correct Mileage showing.

if your instrument cluster go out in a 2001 Lincoln Town Car your vehicle will not start the anti theft system light will be flashing very fast do not take it to the dealer they're going to try to charge you $1,000 to reprogram a new one buy one from the junkyard put your motherboard in the new one the instrument cluster Park off 2995 at the junkyard it should fix your problem the way you know it's your instrument cluster if you have a digital gas gauge and there's a line and is not reading the gas it's a good chance the clusters gone out but if the gauges are not working your anti theft system is connected to that your cluster your vehicle will not start
