In the third party commercial world.....whenever I write up a compressor for replacement, I stress that most compressors do not die from natural causes. Indeed.... most are murdered. I always mention that there are several potential causes of failure, and those causes cannot be identified until the defective compressor is replaced with a working compressor. Those potential causes include: 1) dirty condenser coils, 2) clogged or defective metering device(s), 3) overcharging by other contractors because of the metering device, or restriction other than the metering device, and 4) power or capacitor problems. The client or trade specialist or rep then understands that there will very often be a follow-up quote once the causal factor has been identified. If the dryer which was replaced during the compressor replacement is severely restricted, then often no other cause is found, but we need to make the customer aware of the potential additional costs BEFORE the work gets approved. In some cases, knowing that additional work could nearly double the repair cost, the client will ask for a unit replacement quote as well so they can give the store corporate all of the available options.

When you pull the Vaccum how does one prevent the POE oil from leaving compressor? This is the part where I get all confused. Also new condenser units come pre-charged I also wonder how they pull the Vaccum and not lose oil before charging prior to sales?

Mikey, your nitrogen flow was a little confusing to me, you still had to plug in the compressor for the discharge line you were feeding in nitrogen but it wasn’t escaping the compressor. No hate, just love the see real techs make real mistakes.

The worst part of compressor replacement is the trapped gas that turns into fosgene gas when you disconnect the lines

The only thing you didn’t do was put a screw in the coil putting it back together

King valves and Service valves are different. You don't see King valves on modern units, they were mostly used on Carrier products. King valves, did not have schrader valves in them, you had to close them slightly to get pressure to the line ports. Service valves have schrader valves in them, so all you have to do is put your hoses on them. I always hated King valves, because you always had to have a service wrench to check pressures. Good video, everyone has screwups it how you handle them that matters.

Hey Mikey pipes. Love the content! It takes a real man to admit their own mistakes and it takes balls to put it out public. One thing I usually do when I replace compressors is cutting the pipe as close as I can on the compressor side then unsweat the rest off. Love your vids man. Always learning everyday.

The fact you keep it so real is so refreshing. I just started my own company and it’s not all sunshine and butterflies, don’t get me wrong most jobs are smooth and exactly how I thought they would go, but others you can make one small mistake and be set back a bunch. you own up to all the little miss haps that happen and it shows very honorable character. I really appreciate all you show and it’s really helping me grow as a new company. It also give me a good goal to get my company to I can’t wait to have all the up to date gear like you have, not like most my hammy downs. Thanks from the other side of the country, Portland Oregon.

When I saw the old filter drier I thought "Well that's odd that he didn't change the drier." Then when you said you forgot, one thing popped in my head. "A good technician is aways observant of their surroundings." I have to say I was proud of myself that I caught it before The great Mikey Pipes. lol We all make mistakes but in the end you caught your mistakes and fixed them. Keep up the superior service and amazing content!
