How to replace a chainsaw pull cord on a Stihl MS 180C.
The process will apply to nearly all pull start combustion engines.
Unlock and remove the case, allowing access to the pull cord mechanism cover. This cover is usually held on by 3-4 torx (likely T-25) screws. Remove this cover and pull out the old cord. Insert a new length of cord, tying a knot at the end. Thread the cord through the handle, double over the string, and tie a large knot to keep the string from slipping through the handle. Wind the cord around the spool, ensuring the last round is added with the spring under tension to allow the handle to return. Reinstall the covers and you are done!
