A jack or jack stand under the control arm will stop the control arm from deflecting your hammer strikes, and you'll be able to knock out the ball joint even when rusted in there.

Took a pickaxe head to break my balljoint stud free. Took a drill and drilled holes in the balljoint. This was to hopefully relieve some pressure and maybe it did I dont know. Let the steering knuckle bathe in oil for a day. Then used flathead screwdrivers as wedges and increased sizes going around. Bored out my pinch bolt hole and put a bolt with lock nut and washer. Thats the rust belt for ya. NE Canada

Its not 100%like OEM but when your pinch bolt snaps, you have no torches other then propane are at home alone in the countryside, you make it happen regardless and I think I fixed it up quite well for the trouble I had.. Wish I had come across this video 2 weeks ago when I was actually searching smh. Got the job done, but on my passenger side, I just replaced the whole lower control arm. It cost a bit more, but I just looked at it as a convenience fee🤷🏿‍♂️ Took that repair from a 9 hour trial and error physics calculation to a simple 3 hour step by step process.
