Charging issues on iPads are endemic across all models from the iPad 5th gen. Since its release in 2020, we have seen an influx of iPad 8th gen models with charging problems usually stemming from loose charging ports and causing intermittent charging.
In this video, I show you how to repair the charging problem without replacing the charging port.
This is a much faster and more efficient option and targets the root cause of the problem rather than just replacing it with a part that will have the same problem again in the future.

    this is a bit goofy but thanks for helping the people who are smart enough to actually do this! But seriously, nice work, I’m just too dumb to do stuff like this so I’d rather spend 50 bucks to get it fixed lol

    Two places I called said they don't solder anything, and the one that did said $200 ...I might as well try my luck with that price lol

    The iPad works amazingly the box came a little dirty, kzread.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA no plastic wrap, but the box was sealed and had everything else in the box along with the wrapping, the iPad itself is gorgeous, I got the yellow 64g game storage is good for me along with Socials and school stuff. No scratches or marks came with the charger and box fast speed, and if you are buying a pen get the 1st gen don’t make the mistake I did !!

    Of course testing it out first before putting UV glue on it would be wise. Even then the UV probably isn't necessary.

    Bit of Loctite on the screws too perhaps? Does this problem of the weak solder joints cause just intermittent charging or can it cause any other charging issues, for example, only charging when off?

  • @iDoctorUK

    @iDoctorUK

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, loctite for sure. Mine was stolen from me recently hence not being included in the video. I usually find only charging when the device is off to be linked to the charging IC rather than the port

    Either way you look at this repair it will require some soldering. The other option is to remove the logic board and replace the whole charging port flex

    No it shouldn't. Because the charging port has no data in it. So no worries ;) But when we don't know the other guy don't hesitate to ask him :)

    I have a 7th generation iPad that I purchased new about 4 years ago. The charging cord won’t go into the charging port. Quite sure I’m using the correct charging cord. When I try to look into charging port (without dismantling the iPad), it looks like there two nodules poking out slightly from both sides at the back of the charging port. I don’t see any dust or dirt in the charging port. Is what I described fixable? Can I fix it myself? I haven’t tried to use the iPad in a few years. I wanted to give it to my granddaughter. Thank you for any assistance that you can provide.

    Hi Janet, I see this comment is a couple of months old. In case you still have the same issue, what you described sounds like a portion of the end of a lightning cable has come off inside the port. A repair shop can typically pull it out using very fine tweezers, and with a little luck that's all that's needed. I wouldn't particularly recommend trying this yourself as you can damage the pins of the port which is a bigger ordeal to replace.

    We usually run 2 jumpers on the 5v lines as well. Most of the time it's the broken flex cable behind the charging port.

    Yeah, ok, I'll get right on that LOL! I think mines a lost cause. I often have it sitting on a little metal adjustable tripod on a roll table by my bed next to a JBL Flip speaker. Both are connected to 6' USB cords draped to wall outlet. One night I toss my shirt into laundry basket nearby but shirt slips from hand falls on USB cords sending iPad JBL and tripod all went flying from table hitting wall radiator heater ending on floor. Arrrrgh! Needless to say iPad's screen cracked. And part of the damn USB cord's A-plug end literally broke off stuck inside iPad charge port. Making matters worse I thought I could jimmy it out using tweezers and determination- need I say more? Anyway that's my sad little story of my beloved iPad. For now, adding insult to injury, I'm using my Amazon fire tablet backup. 🤢

    This will be the last one for me too. Out of all the issues a computer or phone or Ipad could have, how amazing is it that the single most basic connection is a problem. I mean how f'ing hard is it to make an input that accepts a charge. It's absolutely incredible.
