To fix a CV boot without taking it off the car, I used a similar method, having a roofing business in England I had loads of partially cured (sticky) EPDM in strips about 3 inches wide. After really careful cleaning I bonded the boot in the same way, then put primer round the entire circumference of the boot, then applied a round of EPDM 'tape' - it lasted for years, and cost just over half an hour's work, on a Citroen which would have been a hellish job otherwise. Nice video, quick and clear - thanks.

@3:15 i would sand slightly on the inside of rib with an emery board. this will give the black silcon more surface area to grab. JUST SAND the RIB NOT THE CRACKED area. Ive done this exact repair on a 98 Honda Civic CV boot and and it has lasted another 10 years !!! Again dont sand the actual crack BUT do sand the inside of the rib slightly.

As you said, “clean the surfaces to make sure the adhesives will adhere.” Make sure you have vigorous ventilation when using volatile solvents like lacquer thinner. After cleaning the surfaces with lacquer thinner or alcohol, air dry, then test to see how clean the surfaces are by spraying clean water on the surfaces to be repaired. If it is free of grease, the water should sheet in the surfaces. If the water beads up anyplace, you will thank yourself for checking because the adhesive would have failed. Conditioning the part before repairing is optimal. Treat the rubber with wintergreen oil in a carrier solvent like alcohol 1 to 3 dilution. Always use gloves, don’t touch the part with bare hands.

Mahalo for the tip. Good video. I restored a vintage VW Scirocco undercarriage shift boot with your method. However, unlike the air plenum you've repaired, the shift book will be under constant movement like a CV joint boot. I have a feeling, it will peel apart over time. We'll see. I made a video that I'll edit and post sometime. I noticed that after I got it togther, used black silicone, started to flex the boot, the super glue bond cracked. I could see the silicone also peel away from the rubber of the boot. So for some extra bonding, I sprayed a couple coats of Flex Seal inside and out. It turns out that Flex Seal doesn't bond well with rubber and can peel away with ease.

Thanks for the vid. I do want to ask about the 303. You mentioned the intake hose would be covered with 303. -Should we be careful not to get 303 on the repair/dried silicone? -Or is it something that's fine to go ahead & submerge/soak/cover in 303? -Should it only be sprayed away from or around the repair? Thanks again
