Two things I think when I see Tommy: 1) this will turn out awesome and I can do this 2) this will be a big damned job
the ending is great when Tommy tells him he has a job too...to clean up 😂
After being a drywall finisher for 20 plus years . .that was actually impressive.

@@ultramaga3359 he’s actually doing it the way old school plasterers did it. You take a cross cut, stick in a piece of metal and trace the profile to the metal. Cut it out and it matches the cornices profile

That was pretty slick how he cut that 6 inch mud knife to follow the pattern of the previous crown...good stuff!
Oh Thankyou. I know where i will need to use this. Been trying to solve the job for weeks didnt know how to make a start. Valuable experience.
Craftsmanship at it’s Best 💥👏🏽
Wowwww just learn how to fix the molding of my old house. Thanksssss!
That cutting the knife to the shape of the molding is genius. Defiantly going to use that.
Got it. 1. Hire Tommy. 2. Pay Tommy. 3. Relish in the skills of Tommy.
I do this for a living on listed buildings and tbh it wasn't bad, I like the fact nothing phases him he just gets on with it. Greetings from the UK.
This is GENIUS!! WOW!! You fellas always deliver! xoxo from Canada
Brilliant work Tommy 👍

that would certainly be something 😂
I thought I was pretty good at building up plaster and sanding to match, but this is extra clever. I can use this.
I love when they do old-fashioned stuff like that as though they had apprenticed a hundred years ago and it was second nature to them.

I guess that's why they call it "molding".
Wow, impressive.

Amazing 🤩
Done this myself once after seeing how they did it on that “How do they do it?” Shows Looks hard but actually it’s not too hard if you manage to make a good template from a knife. And TAKE YOUR TIME! I did 3 layers/mixes. What IS difficult is the corners. THAT takes skill. I found that very tough.

Beyond Impressive. What type of plaster do you use?
Any suggestions for the best way to cut a clean slot in the plaster in order to get the profile?
fking bingo @ 1.30,, i have to plaster into a door frame thats rotted at the bottom and i couldnt for the life of me figure out how to get the profile. God bless you Tom..
Wow
Tommy is the step dad we all wish we had.
.......jeez take the day off 👏👏
If you add bit of hydrated lime you could work with plaster better because plaster dries very fast.
Tom 😎
Trimmed out a very exclusive home ...15 million in value...had a man come in an did a lot of ceiling crown this way and made it look easy..plastered the walls with a pattern that home owner requested...would hate to demo walls thinking it's sheetrock
So can I do this with joint compound? Or do I have to mix my own plaster?
@michaele1201
3 жыл бұрын
good question, fast set joint compound would probably work, but once it is set up, it is difficult to sand and reshape, but it would be stronger than plaster. You noticed Tommy was rewetting the plaster and smoothing the shape. Doubtful you would be able to do that with fast set.
@singlepointdc7749
3 жыл бұрын
Don’t take my word for it, but consider using Plaster of Paris. Mix it in with a little regular joint compound, 45 or 90 minute setting compound to extend the working time. Vary the amount you mix in to get the setup time you want. For making a molding in multiple lifts, maybe about 1 part PofP to 2 parts 45. That’d give you about 20 minutes of working time. Let dry and spray with water between lifts. Make a donut and mix the parts wet.
Bet you wish you had a LASER cutter on a robotic arm when you fashioned that spackle knife Tommy!
Slot to trace profile!
Where do you get plaster powder?

Alright he out did himself on this one
Gee Tommy. 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
Why would someone hit the thumbs down??
Moulding plaster.. is that just plaster of paris? Tried copying your great tip but plaster of paris sets really quickly.
I stole Tommy's idea but I used a plastic knife and made my pattern on it to accomodate a 45 degree angle instead of a 90. I built the 90 first and thought the 45 would work so much easier. Don't tell Tommy, but it did.
I want to know what Tom can’t do!

Smart as f***.
I think it would be easier to make it out of plywood rather than ruin a scraper. Plus plywood withe be easier to cut.
Just in case you own a museum
3 minute clip yet YT attempts to run a 24 minute ad before the clip starts.
Anybody could do a new build, but our house is separate the Masters from the amateurs.
When I worked on my house I did the same think. Except with a more steady guide. The reality is that plaster swells the longer your working it, so your for ever trying to scrape it level. The other thing is like in the video its never straight. It wobbles and weaves. The original crafts men were artisans.
Need lovely 😍💋 💝💖❤️
What cant he do
Seems like too much work I'd rather install new molding.

It's much easier to do if you apply the plaster with a hawk and trowel.
Amazing
