You only really need the first 2 commands and ofcourse the last one. Everything else is simply to back up the present broken BCD. Which begs the question - why backup the broken BCD? Anyway this worked for me. Thanks MDTech.

You fixed my computer from an infinity boot loop thank you I was trying to update my computer and I turn my computer on purpose not thinking about the consequences and ended up with UNDOING CHANGES MADE TO YOUR COMPUTER loop and it didnt do Anything it would turn off and on every 10-20 min repeating it self so I tryed your method and it worked I honestly need to create a backup drive in case it happens again we need more people like you best of luck to your channel!!

It is recommended to start in safe mode so that this does not happen. ^-^

I followed your instructions, but after I entered the attrib.... prompt, it read PATH NOT FOUND, and then after the....old... prompt, it read The system cannot find the file specified, then after ...bebuild...it read scanning all disks, may take a while. I tried a BIOS roll back and it went from F.04 to F 0? This all started bc on startup, it reads immenant hard drive failure. Please help me! I don't have an installation disk either.

Reboots into windows boot manager loop..windows failed to start..file: \boot\bcd .the windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry. It needs to be explained what is the meaning for adding those attributes. I think I should have stopped after the fix mbr command and fix boot.

@@mike92505 I decided to backup my files on the hard drive that failed to boot. I then reinstalled windows. It's the first time I've experienced such a problem. I suspect the boot files got damaged somehow.

Are you sure your drive label for your primary disk is "C"? Could be a different letter OR you are spelling part of the command wrong.

What about on a dual boot situation? Win10 boots but my win7 does not, and I tried all the other options except the command prompts....

This won't work if it is a GPT disk instead of MBR. Could be why some are having problems.

Thank you, solved my problem, i was installing linux in other hard drive and i had work to go then i pressed shutdown button and when come back win. 7 doesn't boot up although it was in other hard drive; then i removed linux hard disk and atteched win. Hard drive after i did your method then easily windows booted up

Trying to restore failed HDD from backup image created in driveimage xml. I've used this exact backup and version of driveimage xml previously and had success. This time I cannot get the restored disk to boot. In cmd running from my win 7 recover disk (which I used the last time this happened) running bootrec /fixmbr "operation completed successfully". Running bootrec /fixboot and I get "element not found". Running bootrec /rebuildbcd I get the option to press y for my windows installation found but I get "element not found". I'm baffled here. Any ideas? Other than the physical HDD nothing is different between this time and the last time I had to replace the HDD with the exception of why. Last time was to upgrade to a larger disk. This time I am replacing due to failed controller board.

Everything went well...all steps successful...but after exiting command prompt and restarting laptop, it again freezes on "Starting Windows" screen.

Hello everyone! I have a FASTFIX, which fixes the system too if anyone can't do it. Put the RECOVERYDISK/RECOVERYUSB. Go for the repair step, open cmd. (command prompt) then type: cd C: then type: bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /scanos bootec /rebuildbcd Then you done it, restart the pc within NOT THE CD./Recoveryusb. So, the mbr is not gonna be modified. I hope i helped anyone!

My main hard drive died, I disconnected it and connected a different one as the main drive, I did a clean, format, and clean install of windows 7 on my drive. I partitioned it into three partitions since this drive is a terrabyte large. Then I tried to update with windows 10, and it gave me an error saying my windows/system32/ntoskrnl.exe is either missing or corrupt and would not let me exit with the options of f8 or to try again...I know it probably has something to do with the master boot, but it does boot up fine to windows and I checked the bios since I did that first before installing the windows 7 OS, and that looks fine in the bios so it is not that...some suggested it was the keyboard, but I tried that, still wouldn't boot up Windows 10, still gave me the same error. Would doing this in the boot fix that or do I need to do something else to get it to boot up the windows installation disk?

Is this really not using cd ? Or usb ? And at doing attrib , its state path not found

Use the media creation tool, and launch the troubleshooting options from there.

When I press command prompt it is just a black screen or my monitor says no signal

I did not take it as such, I tried adding a (: to help distinguish the tone of the text. Just want to clear the confusion that I seem to get on a nearly constant basis on my more popular videos (a couple that are like this). If you are on Linux, it could be a different story.
