    3M Blenderm medical tape for fixing EPO hinges. Fast and effective. Very reliable. Hard to see from more than a couple of metres away. And can be used to reinforce new foam hinges before they even get broken.

    I like Blenderm tape too. But I found that the foamtac or other quality adhesives really do a great job, and don't have that unsightly look that blenderm can have on certain painted surfaces.. Don't get me wrong.. I use the heck out of blenderm...

    Its hard to beat. Only issue I have with it, is it will gum up and doesn't flow as well as some other contact cements like Foam2Foam, UHU POR, or welders. I haven't tried E6000 on the hinge, but I might.

    Thanks. I might try hunting up some 'Welders' and try that. ( I like the idea of fixing the hinge back much like it was when new. ) I'm not sure how good a fix I had using the Foam Tac. I may have had some parts of the hinge area that did not have enough glue to be effective. Anyway, I subsequently trimmed up the hinge area so it was pretty clean and then put in some traditional metal pin hinges which are still functional.

  • @SteffenRC

    @SteffenRC

    Rich, yes the nylon or CA hinges would be a great solution and last a while longer than this solution. That said, I've found this glued hinge works very well on planes that are a little less likely to rip off a control surface.. (Slower, more docile flyers).

    F2F is a solid adhesive and would perform well for hinge repair. I recently made a video (two of them) about different adhesives for our foam planes and found that F2F was good, there were some that performed better in the strength test on EPO foam.
