How To Repair Rotted Door Jambs
To me, replacing a part of the door jamb that was rotting seemed like a simple job, so I decided to just try it myself.
Since my door jam is of the wider size, 6 9/16” , I spent a long time looking for an online store that sold just a piece and not the entire set, and I found exactly what I needed at a really great price, a 36” piece for $40!
I cut the door jamb to size using a jigsaw. I cut the bottom of the door jamb at an angle to match the slant of the door threshold that slopes down away from the house.
I used the door jamb piece that I had cut, as a template to mark the line where I need to cut on the existing door jamb.
I used an oscillating multitool to cut off the door jamb. I bought one for just $36 from amazon and it’s been working great.
I just put some black tape on the blade to mark where I should stop cutting into the door jamb, so I don’t go in too deep and cut into the framing wood that’s behind the door jamb.
When you try to take off the brick moulding, you may find that it has been attached using thick framing nails, which will be very hard to pry off.
I used the oscillating multitool with a metal cutting blade to cut off the nails.
I nailed the door jamb and the brick molding in place by using 16 guage finish nails.
What does termite damage look like? Wood with termite damage.

Hi there, great video. A pro tip for everyone. If you own a table saw it is a lot cheaper to make your own door jam, personally i like to use dry treated 2x6, and use a table saw to make the form, sand and prime, install it, paint it, done alot cheaperand last 5 times.

You should have done something about the termites. You will very likely have additional termites in your house. Just covering the damage they did your door with trim will not make them go away. On another comment YOU ARE GUTTZY, lady, I’m very impressed- Col. Jack

I called a professional exterminator to get the house treated. It cost around $1200 and they applied liquid chemical deep into the soil along the exterior wall of the house.

It's called oscillating multitool, and I put an amazon link to the one I used in the description box below my video. I bought the least expensive one I could find and it worked really well.

How much would you have paid since you have an idea what goes involved.., what’s a reasonable price for this job

Since I'm not a professional carpenter, I don't know what's reasonable to charge. If someone offered to do it for $150, I would pay them to do it for me. If they charged more, I would just do it myself, recognizing that the qualify of my workmanship would NOT be as nice as that of a professional carpenter.
