That’s why every time I took my Milwaukee 18g nailer in to my service Center they always gave me a brand new. They told me like you mentioned that the air chamber is not available as a part. I had 2 of them and loved them when they worked but mine would lose pressure as I shoot a lot of brads with it. I switched to the Metabo just because you can refill them yourself. And it’s much lighter than the Milwaukee. Love your repair videos up here in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada ❤

Awesome vid dean I knew the framing nailer used a BSP TYPE fitting and there’s a multitude of pumps on alibaba etc but another guy a young dude put a video up on yt about it where he refills his framer and it does work well again after refilling and hitting like 175psi but I’m glad to see you drop a video on it as there are more eyes on ur channel than his and more well explained much love from across the pond buddy

Looking at the repairability of most Milwaukee products, I have no idea why people buy it anymore.

If the buyer is sensible they register in the first 30 days you get a three year warranty and they are happy if the machine lasts that long for a day in day out tradesman. Obviously if it breaks after three years and a whole unit needs to be replaced as opposed to just a stator or something like this then it's on them for not going with DeWalt bosch or Makita

@@shifty277you don’t even need to register it. Can even go back from the date of manufacture for the 5 years of warranty. Ofc it’s better if you have the receipt so you can go off the date you purchased but it’s not required in case you lose it. I have sent mine in twice over the past 4 and half years and got no charge at all. Got enough usage out of it during these years and will have no problem buying another.

Cause its an "AmErIcAn" brand. They stick to the patriotism, but most dont know its chinese owned company now. Only Makita and Hilti are not owned by noone, nor they own anyone. All the tests of the red tools show they have most power etc. but never tell you they break faster due to it and in most cases its easier for Milwaukee to replace the tool than fix.

@@michaelfairchild yep TTI. At least in America they sell the other TTI brands cheaper like ridgid and ryobi so they are sometimes half the price of the bare tool of the Milwaukee.

A shock pump for push bike forks would probably be a cheaper option for a high pressure pump than a pcp rifle pump should you need to get higher pressure than the compressor could manage

Any looks at any Makita 40v yet Dean? Is your shop in Donegal selling it?

I'm a builder, been in the trade for 20 years. I've always stuck to Makita. Although the other brands perform well but when it comes to repairs they are a hassle. Makita parts are always available and usually cheap to replace. That goes for most Japanese brands. American brands in my experience just ain't up to par, when they are running good they are great but anything goes wrong and it's usually a full tool replacement

I have the Hikoki 15ga cordless finish gun and i was able to repair it from your videos. I recently had an m18 18ga go bad and i just took it to Milwaukee. I could never do this.

@@kizzjd9578 what were you nailing? Mine occasionally leaves nails proud in hardwood casing/base, even after refilling it, but all the paint grade stuff like primed poplar, pine, mdf trim and door jams, window jams, etc never had an issue. I've also used it on LP siding trim.

After tank replacement my gun does not pull the lid all the way back again like yours do. Just one cycle and I think it should do twice to reach pick up the nail from magazine. 😢

What a Faff on, thats why I still by Bosch and Matika.

The only advantage that I could see in favour of using compressed Nitrogen over compressed air is that high purity Nitrogen contains no more than 3 parts per million of water in it, compared to air containing over 600 ppm

It is a stinker. They make a 12v and 36v 23ga that are newer but not available everywhere

ya not sure in Ireland but in Canada there are no service parts available for these milw. cordless nailers. They even have security torx screws so they definitely don't want you working on them. At our shop we stopped taking them in and just tell people to go directly to milw. Just wondering did you try to use the hitachi metabo J-395 recharge tool for a refill, could have sworn I thought they were compatible , maybe getting mixed up with the framer. cheers nice video.

@@peterfroese8606 to be honest I'm not sure, never worked a senco, but I'm almost positive the j-394 metabo framer refill adaptor will work with the milw. framer and I believe all three hitachi/metabo refill connectors have the same threads. So if the milw. 18g has the the same thread size as the framer, then the hitachi/metabo refill tool should work.

Is it possible to use CO2? Having a larger molecule may leak less past the seals.

Also Dean do you ever come across 110v sds drills that take a dust collector attachment? I know dewalt and bosch had one but can't seem to find one in stock in the uk. I know we can get this kit in 18v or 36v from all the brands but would prefer 110. Thanks in advance

Try toolnation. They have the corded Hikoki and Bosch Rotohammers and sell the HEPA units separately

i normaly dont have to go beyond 8 bar only the ffn needs higher, i use a little tube and a ball needle to fill the chamber. i always give the piston a clean out. its always dirty and sometimes x ring has a twist in.

You can probably get compressed nitrogen at a local tire shops - some will fill up your car tires with nitrogen.

If you could get a schrader valve adapter for the tank you could maybe use a bicycle shock pump to pressurise it. They are cheap and can pump up to 300psi.

If I was to look into a battery eco system for tools to use around the house, garage and garden. Who would you suggest. I wouldn't need dewalt but also dont want B&D. Looking for a good middle of the road setup that all use dame battery setup

The craftsman rp line is a good middle of the road line. Most are rebadged dewalt at a significant reduced cost. Ryobi brushless tools is also a good choice.

How’s things Dean I have a paslode 1st fix gun it’s the older model well kept and maintained by me I’m a carpenter and look after my stuff but the gun fires ,drives the nails but won’t sink them in or even flush have adjusted the depth every way and if I set it completely deep it won’t fire the nails at all it’s like it’s lost the power if you know what it could be let me know much appreciated many thanks . That’s how America works, I know a person in the 70 he has to repair things in California. Aluminum welding with welding machines and gas was not done even a small repair, just dump it and buy new. I thinks nothing is changed for a long time.

Ahhhh, these parts websites look almost as bad as the Ford parts website I’ve been struggling with lately. However, it’s worth pointing out: On that Milwaukee parts list site, it looks like the image is just broken, they may just have a bad link, worth letting them know and they may fix it. Also, I see some parts in that parts list which are not on the parts diagram, for example, part 0135 is the Magazine. So it doesn’t seem to be accurate to say the Magazine is not available for that gun, it just isn’t shown on the parts diagram you found on some other website.

Nope, Dean is presenting accurate information on the Milwaukee cordless nailers. Only parts you can buy are the service plate, work contact bracket, belt hook, corresponding screws, no mar tip and some warning stickers. The service manual is nothing more but a diagram of the outside of the tool and a lot of red lettering that demands you send it to Milwaukee for repair because of the compressed air system and electronics. I don’t remember off the top of my head the cost but Milwaukee will top off the nitrogen for you (somewhere between $75 and $175). To be fair, if you dismantle it under pressure, you won’t be having a good day. Ironically, at least one of the Ridgid/AEG nailers has a user serviceable air port.

It wouldnt even be that difficult for them to angle that one way valve and put the port underneath the back section at the top of where your hand would be.

One thing to notice is that air is 80% Nitrogen. For all intents air is Nitrogen. The only reason to put pure Nitrogen and not air is to avoid the air moisture. There is no other reason.

SO how many nails can you shoot before the tanks runs too low to work?

in theory it should never need to be regased. but the gas will eventual slowly lead out. it could 50,000 nail it do only do 10,000. who knows

I’ve a first fix nailer from Milwaukee. Didn’t use it for 6 months went to finally use it no air. Got a small adapter of Amazon for a 10er tried pumping it to 120 no use bucked 200 in it and it goes like a dream

It's a left handed drill bit, so the brill bit flutes run in the opinion direction, which means you run the drill in reverse. This often grabs the screw while drilling and as here helps remove the damaged screw

There is another video of a guy recharging the same gun. I believe he used more pressure than what you used.

Yeah, for temperature stability, Nitrogen expands and contracts less so the fluctuation in psi isn’t so high with weather changes. More of a gimmick in normal use, has applications in racing however due to pressure/temp is easier to manage

Nitrogen is used because it doesn't hold any water in it, but air does. You don't want water condensing inside your chamber, which is why using nitrogen is smarter than using air. Nothing more, nothing less as a reason. The whole molecule size was thought up by someone that didn't think or know that water in the air could be a problem for tyres. In car tyres it has to do with the water in the air expanding much more than the oxygen/nitrogen when the tyre gets warm from driving, making it harder to keep the optimum tyre pressure.

water is only a problem when the air is being replenished, this is a closed system. so it is always reusing the same air. Water build up is a problem for a compressor as it is always compressing fresh air, These guns compress the same air so the water content never increases

I am always amazed people buy Milwaukee tools they must like wasting money and pain 🤔🤣🤣

Milwaukee are really getting an appalling reputation for repairability. With their complete garbage electronics in their brushless tools. Ridiculous cost of replacements electronics with the parts costing almost the same as a complete new tool. Now like you say you can't even buy half the spares even if you want to. I got the gasless 18ga Brad Nailer & it is complete garbage went on for repair 3 times under the crap 12 month warranty on nails guns (Milwaukee obviously know they are crap as won't offer 3yr warranty) & it still couldn't fire beads properly below the surface or fire a full strip of brads with jamming. Electronic circuits failed on my CCS66 & M18 Surge Impact driver, There slogan of "Nothing but Heavy Duty" is not justified for the most part IMO. I will not be replacing them with Milwaukee.

If I recall I rang them when trying to register it & saying it's accepting my serial number & they said that's because they only have 12 months on nail guns. I am now wondering if the not firing nails below the surface has been a low gas pressure issue all along.

Wow things are really different in UK. Over here in US they offer a 5 year warranty with these guns and I sent mine in twice and got it repaired at no cost. Can ship it for free since you just print out a label. Almost at 5 years with one so I know the next time I need it repaired they will charge me. I expect another year and half out it though. Should be able to get 6 years out of it since I got it repaired at rough 4 and half years.

The nails guns are the odd exception where you only get 12 months & cannot register for extended, I think battery chargers might be another one & there is probably more I don't know about. Also here in the UK Milwaukee dont have their own repair centre, they use "authorised repair centres" which are just local tool shops & it takes weeks for tools to be fixed. You have to wait for them to look at your tool, then they have to order the spares then get round to fixing it, the whole warranty & repair system is crap. I have got quite a lot of Milwaukee kit & it's been the least reliable of all my tools, out of Fein, Festool, Dewalt, Metabo, Bosch & others. DAB radio failed fayer 1 month. 12v battery was faulty from new. SDS drill had warranty repair, Impact driver needed warranty repair l, M18 Surge impact has lost all it power & too expensive to repair & CCS66 circular saw failed & too expensive to repair & the 18ga gasless Brad Nailer is unfit for purpose & utter junk.

Youre still wrong. You need a shock pump for a mountain bike They are low volume high pressure and go to 300PSI. These milwaukee guns need around 200-225PSI.

Why do people still buy Milwaukee? You said in another video that even the rattle gun has very few parts.

Because they generally are one of the best performers (when working mind you) They do a great job at covering every trade with a huge range. And they have really good marketing. It's the fashion to buy red. Personally I'm a Makita man myself. That being said I do run Milwaukee's M12 line because they make the tools I want pure and simple. If Makita made a compelling 12v line I'd buy theirs, but they dont

Dean has said better things about milwaukee's 12 volt line when he has torn down I think a grease gun and maybe a small compressor. The 12 volt impact wrench looks very good for the size as well. 18v Milwaukee - the performance and power you can get out of them with a big 9 or 12 amp battery is good but repairability crap - great for big companies when you're not the individual paying for either repair or replacement but for single tradesmen Makita all the way

To me the same battery platform goes across so many tools is the selling point. Makes it easy that I can carry one charger and one brand battery. But to each their own right.

From a DIY point of view, I have the liberty of choosing from 6 different battery platforms because it gives options. From a professional point of view, I have 6 different battery platforms because it gives me options based on how often I am geared to use a tool. I prefer Makita, but also strangely AEG and Rigid. You'll catch me using Ryobi as well. I only have 3 M18 tools. Used to have 6, but had to bin them due to no parts. There is no one universal answer,and no reason to stick to one supplier. Hell, I'd that was the case Ryobi would rule the world. Unless I know I'm going to be using a tool for 9 hours a day, I won't buy Milwaukee again, especially knowing I'm going to bin it in 2 years.

I own 18 ga finish nailer (2). One of these. What I noticed in this video is 1. You treat your tools like shit. 2. Charging with air allows the thing to freeze in cold weather due to compressed air carries moisture, nitrogen doesn't. 3. I had a gun fail on me after 1.5 years. Contacted Milwaukee. They paid to ship it to them and ship it back fixed (all free). 4. I can access any if the replacement parts with ease. Just see my Milwaukee representative and get what I need. I'm not a fan boy. I own whatever brand performs the best. Some Dewalt, some Bosch. Buy based on performance, not brand.

It would be really great if you could edit out the stuff that doesn't work and just show us what actually we need to do to make it work. E.g. wrong pressures

lol i think alot of people like to see the whole process not just a quick clip of him doing everything perfect that would be boring we like to see all the mistakes and what not to do when repairing tools and this guy is one of the best at troubleshooting tools so i hope what you are suggesting never happens
