Hi, Nice video. I owned an automotive air conditioning and radiator shop for 30 years. I opened it in 1973 and it is still open today by a former employee. I have few comments: (1.) I was taught to clean aluminum with a clean stainless steel wire brush . (2.) I would not have dipped an A/C fitting in water. (3.) It was always a complaint of mine that they didn't make A/C hoses with reusable fittings in the first place. (4.) The R-12 hose barb fittings could be reused. They wrer held on to the hose by the center of the hose. We double clamped them or crimped with A/C hose ferrules. (5.) Barrier hose does not use hose barb fittings to hold the fitting to hose, but uses a bubble crimped ferule. (6.) I experimented with adding A/C hose crimp ferrules to factory hoses and then bubble crimp them. One method I used elongated the hole in the crimp ferrules so it could hook onto the factory hose fitting. I have noticed that some company uses a cage assembly and then special clamps.

Hi saw your comment and wondered if you had any advice for an old fart trying to block off my AC at the rear of my transit van . Seeing the aluminium welding technique I’m wondering if I can flatten the pipe ends leaving a small gap and aluminium weld the end . I live in the uk and having difficulty getting compression fittings to do the job . Thank you
Your a good man for sharing your knowledge, this is very helpfull for me on semi trucks because replacement a/c lines run in the hundreds of dollars. God Bless You.
This is great. I am about to have new hoses fitted to my truck. The repair place mentioned welding the hoses and I was worried it was a bit dodgy but now I see what they meant. Thanks for the video.
1st attempt at this technique: the brazing only bonded with the male-side tube. Probably not enough heat in female-side. 2nd attempt: I gave it more heat... too much. I melted the connection point and it slumped over in my vice. 3rd attempt (after cutting the tube back further and getting a new female-side): Worked like a charm! You make it look easy :)
Amazing and perfectly done
That's my brother! Great job! Andy liked this video😄
So thanks to you. I have a problem with my 1997 Infiniti Q45, ac pipes are hard to find. Now I will make some by myself. Thanks a lot.

Excellent video. Thank you so much. :-)
Good job, what kind of welding line are you using for?
Do you use a swage tool in case you have different sizes ? Thx for the video.
nice work sir
Thanks a lot for this video Where i find this tool to fix any leak?

Great video very helpful
Well, I was curious about technique. But equipment will be too expensive for a one or two time use. Think I'll just have it repaired. However with this knowledge I could do it if so inclined and if it was cost efficient. Thx for posting
pre-fluxed alluminum brazing rods. Ideally, for aluminum soldering you want the flame temp to be 600 degrees F to 800 degrees F
what brazing rods did you use? (flux)
What do you call this fittings becaus so I could know what to look for
Does napa carry this sleeves?
hello, what kind of solder do you use to solder the pipes and at what temperature do you solder?
AN soft jaws might help on holding fittings too
I know that welding after cleaning with brake cleaner is lethal doesn’t brazing have the same effect?
@RoyalBrassandHose
20 күн бұрын
Brazing does not melt the base metals. This means that brazing temperatures are invariably lower than the melting points of the base metals.
What kind of Rod did you use
My question is what kinda “solder” are u using? Led 60/40 or an aluminum braise rod with flux paste? Or silver solder? Flux core, cant be.. but if they hold up to that high pressure and the hot cold differential, im game..

Where would one get the metric pad fitting? How would you clock it to the proper screw to pipe orientation? I am not an A/C man.

We don't stock the metric pad. The orientation is covered in the video in the part about marking on the hose and fitting. Good Luck.
Whats the name of this kind of clamps?
The part where the bolt goes in to tighten the hose assembly to the compressor, is it able to rotate around the pipe? I have another compressor whose bolt hole is on the opposite side as compated to the old compressor but without removing the hose I cannot tell.

What I don't understand is why you can't just re-use the existing fittings instead of hacking them off. That way you would just have to replace the ferrules and the hose, and you wouldn't have to solder at all.

Yep, I agree. Why would he need safety glasses for using compressed air? There is no way any debris can get into your eyes using compressed air! And of course, everyone knows wire wheels never create debris when using them!😂😂😂😂😂😂
