Hi, Nice video. I owned an automotive air conditioning and radiator shop for 30 years. I opened it in 1973 and it is still open today by a former employee. I have few comments: (1.) I was taught to clean aluminum with a clean stainless steel wire brush . (2.) I would not have dipped an A/C fitting in water. (3.) It was always a complaint of mine that they didn't make A/C hoses with reusable fittings in the first place. (4.) The R-12 hose barb fittings could be reused. They wrer held on to the hose by the center of the hose. We double clamped them or crimped with A/C hose ferrules. (5.) Barrier hose does not use hose barb fittings to hold the fitting to hose, but uses a bubble crimped ferule. (6.) I experimented with adding A/C hose crimp ferrules to factory hoses and then bubble crimp them. One method I used elongated the hole in the crimp ferrules so it could hook onto the factory hose fitting. I have noticed that some company uses a cage assembly and then special clamps.

Hi saw your comment and wondered if you had any advice for an old fart trying to block off my AC at the rear of my transit van . Seeing the aluminium welding technique I’m wondering if I can flatten the pipe ends leaving a small gap and aluminium weld the end . I live in the uk and having difficulty getting compression fittings to do the job . Thank you

This is great. I am about to have new hoses fitted to my truck. The repair place mentioned welding the hoses and I was worried it was a bit dodgy but now I see what they meant. Thanks for the video.

1st attempt at this technique: the brazing only bonded with the male-side tube. Probably not enough heat in female-side. 2nd attempt: I gave it more heat... too much. I melted the connection point and it slumped over in my vice. 3rd attempt (after cutting the tube back further and getting a new female-side): Worked like a charm! You make it look easy :)
