How to Repair a Tongue and Groove Deck
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In today's episode we head to Ponsonby, a part of Auckland that has its fair share of tongue and groove balconies. These houses are old but full of character! with a bit of maintenance they can keep their charm for years to come

RE-UPLOAD Hey guys, some people had problems viewing this episode when I uploaded it earlier. After 2 and half minutes the video went black and the audio carried on, or it would just stop all together. it worked for the full 7 minutes on Safari for me, but not on chrome? Not sure why, but hey . enjoy! (again)

Chrome has "hardware rendering" on by default which means it will use your graphics card to render the video. On some PC's with gaming cards this can cause problems with the video...

Love your videos - style, music and simplicity. Keep that way.

Thanks for the re upload,Much appreciated. Originally For me it froze as soon as the ripped down that tongue and groove.
That DIY tips was awesome.
great tip about splitting down the middle, thanks,
Very informative!!😎
Nice job Scotty, some good tips in there, friends / family always say why you have so many tools, you just showed why, because to do what looks like a simple job (properly and without damaging anything) you need a multitude of cordless / hand tools, yes you can do any job with less tools but the finished result won't looks seamless or professional 👍👍

Constant gripe of us carpenters. The simplest of jobs can end up with half your kit pulled outta the van. Such is life haha
Good on the upload.. success !!
That was a cool episode
Nice tips bro. Cheers
good job!!!
Great tip on cutting a strip out of t&g
Nice job Mate- I’ve got the exact(ish) problem!
You seem to have the same weather as us here in Wales UK. Scott. ;)
I remember during my apprenticeship my old boss made me and the other tradesmen paint the tongue and face then install it into the ceiling 🙃 this videos giving me slight PTSD 😂

Great rework on the deck and excellent information. How do you like the Makita multi-tool? Do you find the battery position interfering anytime? It appears to hang below the level of the blade.
hi scott great video Loveit can you cut off the bottom of the groove to fit new boards as well?
FYI if your keen on a munch, try the bakery down from Dilworth next to the model shop. Was stopping in everyday doing the panels their, meanest food in the morning. Just a suggestion :)

Nicely done! The epoxy you got it dead smooth? Paints up nice?
Worked fine for me this time in Opera browser.
Hey Scott! Great video. But I am searching for a method to “knock” tongue and groove back together. Is that a thing? Our 90 year old porch floorboards are starting to separate from each other with regularity and speed, from the front edge of the porch and now moving back toward the house. What could be going on there?? Seems like they’re spreading out and I would love to get them back together before the wood starts to deteriorate. 🙏
CRC 808 spray Silicone help for tongue &groove move
Nice one. Its definately handy if you can tap the board in from the end like that, but more often than not that's not possible, like on an internal floorboard. I just cut the last tongue right off, and put a nog under the tongueless join with some glue. Also geez how did you get such perfectly sized boards?? Were they custom made or was it just lucky?
@ScottBrownCarpentry

Good tip man, I do that myself when there is no other option. I got lucky with that size! They must of redone the porch fairly recently
Wow! super clean patch/repair. Its like open heart surgery on a deck:-)

scott brown.nice tip about cutting 2 lines in the board to do the extraction,8 points. How handy do you find the trimmer ie worth the $280 nzd. why didnt you machine up the new boards with your table saw instead of driving around wouldnt it be more cost efficient or was it a "to do" job?
@ScottBrownCarpentry
5 жыл бұрын
I was pretty confident I'd get a match, and figured I could trim it a bit if I needed to. Didn't need to though. The trimmer is well worth if you have Makita batteries already. Great tool!
Video goes black after a bit over 6 minutes. Great content, btw :)
Rain like the uk 🇬🇧
What kind of material is the old tongue and groove boards?
nice youe wark
Guys help me out. Is that a marine grade epoxy?

How do you get your business? Do your clients find you from ads, google searches, work of mouth recommendation. It's interesting how this client had you back 4 years later to do a job you've done for them in the past. I wonder if many of your returning clients contact you first when they need a carpenter since they know you'll do a good job and they don't want to fuss of calling around.

Everything is through word of mouth. No adds, only social media posts and friends of friends etc
My dad uses Makita
Would it have been a good idea to just use a router, route it out and then tap a piece of tongue and groove decking into place with a bit of construction adhesive? I guess that would make it obvious right?
canny weather.
*Soffit, not “soffeet”!*
Good video but S a general comment a tongue and groove glove outside is just foolish
You should see if Makita would sponsor you, you're flashing Makita tools all over the place.
