How to Repair a Dead Gourmia Air Fryer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

See how to bring a dead Gourmia Air Fryer back to life if a burned out thermal fuse is the culprit. Watch how to disassemble, locate and test the thermal fuse and replace it to restore function. Please use crimps rather than soldering to connect the replacement thermal fuse. Soldering can blow the fuse if you're not careful, and crimping is easier and faster if you have suitable crimps.

    A big thanks for this. Saved us buying a new air fryer. Apparently this is a common failure point in the Gourmia brand air fryer. Fuse (and some extras) ordered! Shout out to an earlier commenter that mentioned "cheating" to make sure it would come on. (Not actually firing up the heating element of course, but getting the beep. ) I used a jumper wire temporarily and it indeed came to life!

    Thank you very much for the video! My Gourmia Air Fryer GAF-575 got the same issue. I managed to open it before found your video. I opened the bottom first, and checked the mechanical switch, which is OK, then opened the top, but couldn't see obvious burning on the board, and I didn't know there is a thermal fuse , so I gave up and just bought a new one today from Costco (same brand, newer model, same price) as we use it often. Then, I found your video tonight and measured the thermal fuse, which is open circuit. I ordered new fuse from Amazon rated at 15A because the spec of Gourmia says 1500W, which suppose to be over 10A on 120V. If I can fix it, I will keep it as a spare/backup.

    Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I have this same exact fryer and it had the same problem. A friend gave it to me after it died. I was 99.9% sure it was the thermal fuse, but couldn't figure out how to get it open and when I seen your video thumbnail and title last night, I said this guy knows how to fix this. I was right! Thanks again. I didn't have the right fuse but I ordered a 5 pack of them from Amazon last night, so they should be here by the 31st. 1st air fryer I've ever owned and I have to say I'm liking it already. I used a lower value fuse just to test it and it made a handful of fries before that fuse also blew. I didn't want to put a higher one in it to make sure nothing else got fried (no pun intended LOL). I just wanted to come back here and like your video and leave a comment.

    I followed this video in trying to repair my somewhat similar Gourmia air fryer. Mine was much harder to get into, the top required many more steps to be able to take the shell off, and I broke the top knob which controls cooking temperature while trying to get in. Unfortunately when I did get in, the thermal fuse was not located on the top as in your model, but was sandwiched between the top layer and the inside of the cooker, which I assume was purposeful so that I could not gain access to it. I would have had to break the shaft that turns the fan inside the cooking chamber to gain access to the fuse and so after many days of tinkering and trying different ways to reach it, the whole thing wound up in the garbage. Which I'm sure was their intent.

    I did the fix and it worked, bit then when my wife finished using it she put the clean basket back in, the fryer was off, and the burner came in by itself with no lights or fan on it started smoking. My wife unplugged it and told me about it. It would not turn in again so I took it apart and fount the thermal resistor was blown again. Fixed it again and noticed the burner unit had lost a few screws and was dripping down a bit. It was causing the fan to touch something causing friction. Upon inspecting, I found the where the acres hold the burner unit up in the machine the plastic bases had melted a bit l, so I put longer screws in which held it in there perfectly, but when went to test it, it worked but upon placing basket in with machine off it didn't again white the cooking element turning on getting red and smoking, unplugged again and same thing. Machine won't turn on, thermal resitor blown again. What do you think it is. I have to order more thermal resistors to trouble shoot again.

    Sounds like you have a true overheating problem and safety issue. The thermostat (temperature sensor) may be bad, shorted or ventilation may be obstructed. In any case, it’s more than just a marginal thermals fuse. If the heating element comes on by itself, that’s a serious fire risk. Time to toss that air fryer before you burn the house down.

    Very nice video, easy to follow, I couldn’t find exactly the same thermal fuse, but one that goes 170 C and 15A... is there a risk on that condition!? This fuse actually included two small pieces that allowed to crimp it to the wire, so no need of soldering.

  • @whidbeyben

    @whidbeyben

    That sounds like it should do the trick. Nice that your thermal fuse came with crimps. It is better to crimp because soldering could blow a thermal fuse if too much heat travels along the wire as it is soldered.

    I’m sorry that I can’t help you with that. I have no experience with the nutricook rapid air fryer, and there are as many design variations as there are models and manufacturers. A cardinal rule for DIY repairs is always take lots of pictures of all wiring and connections before you disassemble and disconnect. Also be very careful to organize and label all fasteners as to where they belong. It’s never a good thing to have “extra” parts left over after you reassemble.

    The thermal fuse is a very important safety feature. You don't want your house to burn down because you simply bypassed it. These Gourmia Air Fryers are poorly designed, so they tend to overheat. Without the thermal fuse, they would probably turn into an indoor bon fire.

    To access the microswitch that detects the presence of the drawer, you need to flip the Gourmia air fryer upside down and remove the bottom cover. There are 5 recessed but visible Phillips screws that hold it in place. With the bottom cover off, the microswitch is easily accessible. One of the power wires goes directly to the microswitch.

    Your unit is overheating. It could be many things, but I’d make sure the fan isn’t obstructed and airflow through the unit isn’t impaired. If it’s the thermostat or control board, it’s time to toss it in the junk heap and get a new, better designed air fryer.

    You’ve got a different problem because the thermal fuses don’t reset themselves. Once the blow, they have to be replaced. There may be a component on the processor board that is failing. Sorry.

    Sorry. I’m not a repair shop- just a DIY kind of guy. There’s usually a thermal fuse and a tray sensing switch that are the parts most prone to failure. I have no idea what’s inside your Nuwave Brio but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t very similar to the Gourmia.

    The original thermal fuse has 18g solid wire terminals on each end. You can search eBay or Amazon for 192˚C thermal fuse and thermal fuse wire crimps. Some vendors even sell the thermal fuse and crimps as a set.

    I had an issue with this Gourmia Air Fryer too. It won't turn on. The switch is good. And I found out the thermal was blown so I replaced it. But it still won't turn on. However, when I tapped on the relay, it turn on and off so I thought it must be the relay so I replace it as well. And it still won't turn on. Anyone has any idea what could be wrong?

    There is the switch that senses the presence of the tray but you have probably reached a point of rapidly diminishing returns for resuscitating your Gourmia where the most cost effective option is replacement with a more durable air fryer.

    You can search for 172 degree 10A 250v thermal fuse. Here is an eBay auction listing that can be used: 333728878801. In the video, I used one rated at 192 ˚C because I had some lying around after fixing a rice cooker, but the one I cut out of the Gourmia was a 172˚C thermal fuse. Best of luck.

  • @whidbeyben

    @whidbeyben

    3 жыл бұрын

    Different models may have various error codes. E1 can be caused by a bad thermal fuse, or other internal electrical problems. If your thermal fuses blow frequently, there may be other problems including obstructed ventilation, thermocouple sensor, or circuit board problem that are beyond the scope of this repair.

    What happens if you put wires Together 🧐

  • @whidbeyben

    @whidbeyben

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you are asking what happens if you simply splice the wires cutting out the thermal fuse, you run the risk of burning your house down in the event of an actual overheating situation due to poor ventilation or malfunctioning of the thermostat. I would never recommend bypassing the thermal fuse because it is an important safety mechanism. Many times, a thermal fuse may blow due to a transient problem (power surge, overloading of the air fryer, blockage of the ventilation, etc). If, however, the thermal fuse blows repeatedly, there is a more serious underlying problem that needs to be addressed.
