As someone who works with a company who does this service in Dallas County, let me add some tips that most people don't realize when they want to go pay in person with a third party service, like in a grocery store. 1. YOU CAN ONLY GET YOUR REGISTRATION DONE WITH THE GREEN RENEWAL NOTICE WHEN GOING TO THE THIRD PARTY SERIVE LOCATIONS LIKE IN GROCERY STORES. The renewal notice should arrive to the address they have on file for the vehicle a month or 2 months BEFORE its supposes to expire. If you do not receive in this time frame, it most likely got lost in the postal system OR they might have the wrong address on file if you've recently moved. 2. Like in the video, GET YOUR INSPECTION BEFORE GOING TO RENEW IN PERSON. For the inspection, it can last 60 days before you have to redo it. So you CAN get the inspection out of the way a month ahead and be able to use it, but don't procrastinate it too much. Some locations may ask for it, others might not, so just have it ready on hand in case they ask for it along with a copy of the insurance. For the insurance, it can be either a PDF or paper copy, and it would have to be Valid, as in NOT EXPIRED. 3. Double check the COUNTY on your renewal form notice. As a law they passed idk how many years ago, but each county can only do the vehicle registrations for THEIR OWN COUNTY. Ex. I work in the Dallas County, the nearby Counties are Tarrant and Denton. I CANNOT do any vehicles registered to those other counties except mine, Dallas County and the same vice versa. It does happen where you might move from one county to a different one, for this, the first time you renew in your new address, go to the tax office to have them update your address along with the county registered. I have seen many times the address being local but the vehicle is still registered somewhere else and they would still have to go to the Tax Office. 4. Depending on the store it can be processed with debit AND cash or at my store locations, it would be CASH ONLY. So be sure to carry some cash on hand to cover the amount just in case. 5. If you do it in person at a store, you WILL get your sticker IMMEDIATELY. If you do it online, it might take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive if it does arrive. I did my mother's online one time and it NEVER arrived. 6. Little known tip, you can renew your sticker the month BEFORE it expires, the Month it's supposed to expired and to do it in store, you can do it the month AFTER it expires as long as you don't get a ticket for EXPIRED REGISTRATION. Example. My sticker expires JULY 2022. If I want it done ahead of time, I can get it done June, July and August. I think those are all the tips I know for now and I'll edit if I remember anything else. I will say, PLEASE do not YELL OR THREATEN US BECAUSE YOU DIDNT FOLLOW ANY OF THESE TIPS. This happens more often than you would think 💀

Hopefully your able to see this I recently purchased a truck and the previous owner removed the plates and the sticker is expired I’ve purchased temp tags till the vehicle inspection was completed now that’s it’s completed it’s asking for a plate # with the vin but I don’t have a plate number to enter & when I try the one from the paper its 8 numbers and not 7 I’m so lost please help I’m very new to Texas I’m just trying to get plates and a sticker for the truck

Good video but I have a question , you don’t need the renewal notice to renew it online right ? As long as you have your inspection , and other information like proof of insurance and basic personal & car information? And debit card lol

Correct. As long as the car is inspected and you're within the expiration window (expiration minus 2 months), it will show up in the online portal for renewal

I don't know how to verify if they got inspection, but they follow up if it's not on record. By the time you get the paper inspection, they have a copy. Insurance is actually for inspection rather than reg.

Are there any property taxes on the car beyond the annual registration fees? For example in Massachusetts, we had something called "excise tax" which we had to pay annually to our local town.

Nope, just that flat fee per year. Taxes are paid usually up front on car sale.

@@VishalRaoOnKZread Just need to get over those 6.25% taxes on registration, but yes other than that it's good on cars. I know some people run their supercars on Montana plates to avoid that 6.25% tax rate. F8 is nice -- would love to make it that big someday!

You need to make sure you put a dash “-“ between the numbers. For example, XXX XXX-XXXX

Yes, they email you a renewal receipt PDF that you can use as proof of renewal in the meantime

So they have to receive my vehicle inspection electronically first and then I can renew online? I just tried renewing online and it says "your vehicle inspection cannot be verified at this time." About 2 weeks. You get a confirmation email and a 30 day grace period in case your reg is already expired.

I’m used to living In Florida where there is no annual inspection. I now live in Texas. Also if I haven’t received the inspection notice in my mail what do I do?

as long as the registered owner is your new address, you're fine. the re-register price should be the same regardless of county.

you'd have to find a way to get an inspection on your car upon returning to TX, see this link renew.txdmv.gov/Renew/registrationrenewal/jsp/txdot_reg_ren_out_of_state_question.jsp
