got them at Walmart years ago on clearance for $3

Just stopped working on my ford focus, doing a tire rotation but cant because one of the lug nuts is rounded. Did a search and your video was the first to show up. I found this easy to understand, thank you.

Haha should have known FORD! Just spent a half a day on interstate trying to remove these same exact lugs. Finally got extractor bolt and it spun them but they never would back out. Had to have it towed. Great Job Ford!

You guys can make fun of his Batman shoes all you want. However, he saved me a lot of money. Ford wanted about $380 to "fix" their manufacturing design deficiency. Furthermore, they were going to put the same kind of lug nuts back on my 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid - NO WAY! I spent about $50 for new chrome plated lug nuts and $22 for the nut extractor set. Incidentally, it took about 45 minutes for all four wheels. Thanks for an extremely useful video!

In the States you probably don't have Citroen. Great French cars, so comfortable- full of quirky innovation. Hydro pneumatic suspension-best in the world. (So good and expensive to manufacture they've stopped doing it). So one of those fast tyre outfits overtightened the security wheel bolt. Using the key socket it just broke the useless pins in the key. I didn't have the special extractor but heated up a slightly smaller socket and hammered it on the bolt head. Breaker bar-lots of pressure and it went with a crack. Brilliant. No it wasn't! Those clever French had built in a weak spot to bollox anyone using that technique. All it had done was shear off the head of the bolt and left a flat surface, like a big shiny nail head. Bought a set of expensive tungsten drill bits and spent an uncomfortable afternoon drilling it out. Then to the breakers yard for standard bolts.Chucked the security bolts in the trash. I'd advise everyone to do the same. And check you can manage to undo the bolts after some grease monkeys whacked them on with an air wrench.

Funny that I was looking up how to remove rounded lugnuts and this video popped up. The rounded lugnuts I'm needing to remove are on my daughter's 2012 Ford Focus. I had given thought to driving a 12 point socket onto them but hated to go that route. I just ordered the same twisted socket set you have. I had forgotten they made such a thing. 😂

Thanks for the video...Ford wanted to charge me $130 dollars hour to remove 2 stripped lug nuts on my 2013 Ford escape. Something told me to you tube it..I'm a nurse and one thing I know is that it's more than one way to skin a cat... So I found your video. You can't trust folks to be honest these days.. they tech said he didn't think he could get it without cutting it off🧐 and he could damage the rim. I can't go back to Ford after that lie... I'm sure they have the same tools and was gonna charge me for labor that took 5 mins if that to do.

By the way, I was able to pick up a 5-piece set of lug nut extractors for about $30 from Harbor Freight...I shop there all the time...you can suggest taking a look there if you want to find a good deal on something like this. These won't always remove if the bolt is seized in they just slip off too ..they don't always work with bolts , they may work better with your type of lug ...the problem is that none of the tyre shops use antiseize on the tip of the lugs not the thread but the tip of the lug the torque speck is not followed either ..once a lug nut or bolt is overtightened it's stretched and one should note this and change it for new ...life is so busy we don't say no to shops using hammer tools and just ploughing into the job without enough care , I see this all over London UK Shops doing this . They don't care it's not their problem let the next guy deal with it .. Good Video thank you .

Jeep has a chrome cover over their lug nuts, same problem, I wonder if you can rent them at autozone, I replaced the front lug nuts with the solid chrome ones, discovered if you spray wd-40 on them a couple of days before they might come off, I believe that the aluminum rim corrodes and the nuts seize to the rim.

It's a ford that's why, oem lug has a cap on a 18mm lug to be come 19mm. No impact gun on this lug, hand tight only

You can use an impact. You just have to use the right size socket. Before you say I'm wrong. Watch my video where i show what happen when you use the wrong size socket. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z32apdSBgdHHj6w.html

Already tried that would not work some of them will not come off you either have to drill the lug which is harden steel or chisel the softer nut off thank you

Heated it up with a torch than try it.

Thanks, really useful. I managed to do this with a standard socket. I know new nuts are not expensive but I managed to separate the nut from the cover by hammering a metal rod through the inside of the lug towards the cap and they pop off.

Using this tool is easy and its cheap.

The new lug nuts you got are different from the originals! The originals have a sleeve and that’s why they rounded off. The Substitute look solid metal! I have a Jaguar X type which Ford build and I have the same crappy lug nuts. I would like to replace them with solid metal so I don’t have to deal with the sleeves anymore. What kind are the new once that you got?

I did that but by tapping on the lug nut I knocked the stud out the locking grooves behind the brake disc, now I can't get it out because the whole thing spins....

A friend had a set of this but in 3/8 drive, used an adapter in my 1/2 breaker bar and broke the adapter. Now I need to run to get the 1/2 set

They get worn and rounded shoulders from guys using air impact guns. Running them down too tight by holding the dang trigger until they stop moving. Also using S.A.E. sockets on metric (and the other) will do it to. Being a mechanic, I know they're actually supposed to be torqued. But no one does it.

I have a problem: I also have a damaged lug nut and I tried the special extractor socket set. But the problem is that I have a chrome cap over the nut that will just turn around and the socket has no "real" nut to bite into. It seems I'll have to destroy the chrome cap before I an use the extractor, right?

So I guess I'll keep them because I don't know how long I'm gonna be driving this car. Soon there will be a general inspection and it seems I have quite a lot of rust, so I don't want to put more money than necessary in this car before I know, whether I can keep it for some other 2-3 years ;-)

My Liberty Sport same problem, lug nuts corrodes to the rims, buy the solid chrome ones and clean the rim where the nuts are seated, spray wd-40 on each one a couple of days before.

looks like the last owner messed them up

Somebody rounded off on the one I’m working on. The lug nut on these cars are not your typical size that’s why some tire shop use the one that is too big and round it off.

got this problem with my fiesta mk7 the nuts have a stupid tin cap over them and the 19mm socket wont fit having a nightmare of a job getting them off whoever thought of this idea at fords wants his ass kicked nice to know about these sockets il be changing the original crap for some aftermarket lug nuts before im stranded by the roadside somewhere with a flat tyre.

It's better to turn it and break it off so you can put a new 1 on .

Happened yesterday to my daughters car, she worn the nut. Will see what we do when she's back. Hopefully she don't get a flat tire. I told her without those mistakes you'll never know what you did wrong. Greetings from Germany

@@derekwolf4311 I drilled a hole in the center of the stud and then used a 1/4” cold chisel to chunk off pieces of the lug until I broke it all off. Took me about 30 minutes or less and I didn’t damage the rim at all.

This gone cost more then getting a tow
