After setting the color deselect that element or area with Lasso Selection (L) and then proceed it further

This trick does not applicable to all watermark as not all the watermark are al vivid as like yours. It's difficult to make a selection to a watermark which is light and laid on a complex texture.

Yes indeed. it only works with solid color watermark. You may want to manually remove other types of watermarks.
