    Another good tip for cleaning your tube is soaking it in Milton which is the solution you soak babies bottles. Also don't worry about it being super sterile your stomach acid will kill off any nasties. Another great video as always. Xox

    My now year old when she was 2months old needed a ng tube and bc the ng tube is not long term she eventually needed an Mickey button I was trained to change both for the ng tube to make sure it was placed right I would need to take a syringe and pull back fluids if you get fluids it's in the right spot and to also listen to make sure it was also placed she would pull the ng tube out all the time the micky button was a bit easier to change and she also had a pump and all as well and supplies delivered she was ftt on her behalf she was basically starving her self and we still don't get it the nurses at the hospital would try to bottle feed her and all her milk would pool out of her mouth but when we used the pump we only was allowed one bag per day so I had to clean it all the time when her feeds where finished

    There are plenty of other videos on my channel explaining why i have the tube and my medical conditions, if your interested please feel free to check them out! The reason i have the tube though is because i have a condition called gastroparesis which means my stomach is paralysed so i can't digest food, so i use one tube to feed into my intestines (which completely bypasses my stomach) and the other tube to drain my stomach (to stop me from vomiting bile) that's the tube that i remove because i only place it in flares and it can be removed at any time where as the other tube (that i feed into) cannot be removed. Hope that made sense haha, i know all this medical stuff can get a little confusing sometimes! but if you have any other questions feel free to leave another comment.

    Why does everything that goes through the tubes need to to be sterile when food isn’t sterile sanitising equipment I would understand but not completely sterilised the only way to completely sterilise is by putting it through an autoclave or using a special chemical

    Oliver Likes Cats what i mean is like when flushing the tube in the usa they use tap water for flushing the tube even if its a surgical tube once fully healed which as i said previously you wouldnt sterillise, distill water or drink water for irrigation so why should it be pushed through feeding tubes when the stomach or intestines can manage with regular water and food which is far from boiled

  • @holyroyd

    @holyroyd

    The tube she always has in is a NJ tube which bypasses the stomach aka the place were all the bacteria is killed by stomach acid therefore she needs everything that enters that tube to be sterile or close to sterile. But your correct for NG tubes the stuff that goes in doesn't have to be sterile.

    OnlyTheTrue if I need an NJ placed then yes and most of the time NGs will be placed by nurses or doctors but in some circumstances like myself i have been trained and it is much more convenient for me to place them myself and there are lots of other conditions such as Crohns and IBD where this is also the case. Its not uncommon and I just thought it might be helpful for other people in the same situation. And it is not dangerous what so ever if your experienced and know what your doing. With that said I can understand where your coming from. Hope that made sense x

    Just thought I'd let you know that nurses will receive the exact same training as Amy. The only difference is Amy is a service user and will give a more realistic method. Her being on youtube makes no difference to her competency. Healthcare professionals won't just let her go home and replace tubes without proper training because then it would be unsafe, it's the same with diabetics and performing their own blood glucose monitoring, or people with Crohn's giving their own injections. I've sat in and watched them train people like Amy, so you can rest assured x
