    I am confused. You rub your car with sandpaper to remove scratches? Won't that scratch you car too? I have some very light scratches done by me when i foolishly used a wet paper towel to wipe some bird droppings. If a wet paper towel could scratch my car then a sandpaper will do a lot more. So i am confused on how i will fix my wet paper towel scratches by using something even more hard and scratchy than a wet paper towel.

    You use only wet paper and you use a grade of paper based on how deep the scratches are. and you should soak the sand paper overnight.

    That 3M rubbing compound is the only one I've found that actually works. I restored my boat's hull with colored gelcoat, and it was the only product that could buff it to a shine. Most of these other so called rubbing compounds, that say "clear coat safe", don't have enough abrasion to actually remove scratches.

    That was satisfying. Don't know why people think oil in a can will put paint back onto areas where the paint is missing from the car. All you did was make an oily mess and now you've got to go in with a wax and grease remover to clean it up to do it right.

    Do u still need to apply clear coat? Or keep using wax when the color keep getting dull

  • @myRatchets

    @myRatchets

    9 жыл бұрын

    t dub If your car is dull, your clear coat is probably wearing out. If its not too far gone you can use wax to prolong the life of it but to fix it you'll need to probably paint it. If you will be painting it mind as well apply both base coat and clear coat since the extra labor and cost of applying the base coat is small.

    RatchetsAnd Wrenches Which is why I used quotations around "remove". They hide scratches, and on a dark vehicle, it can hide them really well. And as someone with OCD, I use it every time I wash one of my cars. Takes 20 seconds to hide a few scratches until you have the time to polish and wax. :D

    Not something for the squeamish! I learned this back in the 1980's from a pro. This is a good starter package into "buffing" as Wikipedia would say the "Document" "Video" needs more attention. Many aspects to deal with but just one for example would be the pad cleaner. If you don't clean the pad after rounds or successive grits you will be working with a dirty pad, grinder... The way you approached the A/C system a while back would be the way to deal with this subject. They are equally involved. I would like to see a series like this if you have the time to do it. You can make a mirror out of your automobile if done correctly. You know as well as I do Careful;Careful;carefully...

  • @myRatchets

    @myRatchets

    Curiosity Yes, buffing and polishing is much more involved than one would imagine. I probably should have done more to mention the danger's you mentioned in your comment. But yes, maybe I'll do a small series on buffing and polishing to get that mirror look everyone wants. Thanks for your comment.

    IT WONT REMOVE SCRATCHES. A scratch is into the paint. It would be impossible for it to fill and repair a scratch. A happy Russian guy with WD-40? That's what sold this guy? He was probably the local WD-40 rep. LOL Cleaning? WD-40 is 50% mineral spirits. Sanding first? How about cleaning the area first and then rubbing it out to remove any paint left behind from whatever you rubbed up against. Then you can start to prep the area for touch up paint if necessary. A happy Russian guy? This video cant be serious, it must be a joke. As of my posting it looks like WD-40 sold 1,283 cans of their product to people for the wrong reason. By the way, while we are at it .... WD-40 is not fish food or a cure for arthritis. You might as well have mixed the WD-40 with some flour to make a thin paste and used that as your rubbing compound. If it doesn't work you can always use the leftover batter to make WD-40 pancakes. A happy Russian guy .... lol .... youtubenoob.
