I can't begin to tell you how much I love you and your attitude for life. I want to get my ass up and get busy but I pretty much stay busy. I am 76 from a Military family. All my family are dead. I am living on a meager disability check but keep my home up and now doing a little touch up on my old F-150. I watch your videos because I have not clue but your give me inspiration. I am just fixing some scratches and will use rattlecan paint from Autozone. Won't say the name. I bought a cheap DA, multigrit sanding and buffing pads, primer, paint and clear. Probably look like shit but I try to stay busy. I have great respect for you.

I found a brass wire wheel useful for situations like this. Other than that, your results were same as mine. The first wheel you used when worn, puts out a lot of dust as it disintergrates. So I just use a cheap dust mask and eye protection. Great video pete.

Nothing beats those poly carb wheels! I've used'm to clean rust, undercoating, paint, etc.. they do wear down, but for $10 you can get the ones that don't have bolts, so you can run them both directions - always works a lot quicker if you force the direction against the paint, not with it. I absolutely love these things, VERY little heat in to the metal too!

DIY school, Pete. my Dad had a stroke in 2013& didn't take as good of care on my Mom's car&he just gave it to me mercury Marquis 99 has only rust over wheels & like a chipped flaking on hood edges, being disabled I can't by ever tool out there, and being a female I love tools .I have one dremel and a Robie (spelled?) I think I have like a wired piece can I use this? oh I forgot to say it looks like my Father put a polymer over wheels on rust looks like it was a cream, clear but thick he doesn't remember, which is common in his 80s+ a stroke. Thank you, just bought one of the polycarbide discs from ebay, here in the UK we pay more, it was £3.35. There are a couple of small areas on my 1989 Volvo 340 that need cleaning up. Generally, it's in good condition, close to 200,000 Miles on the clock, no work on the engine/ gearbox/ clutch has been needed.

I use the black plastic wheels a lot. The ones I use are made by 3M, they cost me around $10.00 a piece, wish they were cheaper than that. They will mold themselves into corners if you push them hard enough. I use a 1/2 inch hammer drill for more power. You do have to be careful of heating the metal.

Pete, you can get smaller 2 and 3 inch poly discs in roll-loc type. work great to get into tight areas. With those wheels you bought you really need to watch the max rpms and the the tool your using . IF you use a tool that spins to fast for them they will disintegrate .

the poly carb disc works just as well as any disc to strip paint and or rust. my experience, when i use it with a lower rpm, like a drill, it works not as well as one that spins faster. my drill only goes up to 700 rpm. but when i use it with my impact driver, goes up to 1500-1600 rpm, it works like wonders as it doesn't require you to stay in one spot as long as one thats lower rpm. the disc lasts for a long time too which is very nice and saves me from having to go back to get another disc to finish what im doing.

Pete! Can I use these Polycarbide wheels to strip a whole vehicle??? I'm trying to fix up a 64 Ford Vanette step van that about 25% of it is rusted with some areas just surface and some pitted. I was thinking to strip the whole van to clean metal with carbide strip wheel, spray rust converter/preventer on the metal, cover it in MasterCoat, then epoxy primer, then some filler in areas and pits, then prime/paint. Does that sound good? Will these wheels work good? I watch a ton of youd videos! They are a real treasure, I'd never try this without your videos! THANK YOU!

Hi from Australia. Firstly, I'm surprised you only just found these, I've been using these for a couple of years and I think I was slow on the uptake myself. Things are more expensive over here and for the "poly stripper" I pay around $12 for one that has a grinder backing plate for doing big flat surfaces and maybe about $8 for the one like you used. I've used cheaper black ones like yours and they work well but generally I use brand name ones that are much more durable (3M which are blue and some others I can't remember). I find high speed and light pressure works best and they are very gentle on the metal and magic at removing rust. I see guys still using wire wheel and no matter how much I tell them they rarely listen - I have to put one in their fucking hand and make them use it and then the lightbulb comes on. The nylon ones you got must be cheap knock offs as I found they do work and I have used them and smaller ones to get into tight places BUT their durability is atrocious and they just aren't economical.

Hey Pete,I have used Harbor freight for over 20 years.,and what it comes down to is you have to know what to buy and what not to buy.I have had pretty good luck with their air tools and all kinds of other stuff.I did buy a n air over hydraulic lift for lifting one end of a cars and had to send it back. They don't weld anything square and the lift I bought was way to jumpy and would go up and down to fast and would scare the shit out of you.Small stuff is best but be careful buying big things ,especially the welded together stuff ,like lifts or jacks and what not. They also sell cheap spray guns, and they do work but they're not good for a real quality job.Best used for priming, and spraying other things you wouldn't put through an expensive gun.

Put that black disc in an strong electric grinder or 1/2 inch drill its got big torque and wont bog down as bad. I wonder if that black disc could be turned on a lathe and maybe even ground to shape with a standard grinding wheel?? Or forced against an old file clamped in a vice to get the contour you want? Stay gold.

I haven't used the red nylon wheel before Pete, but I imagine that it would make short work of cleaning off old adhesive when replacing trim or emblems. I need to pull off some old trim from my truck and I know it to be a task to remove the adhesive and I know wd40 will loosen it up but wiping it off isn't fun at all from what I recollect from doing other similar detail work. Maybe that wheel if not to aggressive could be good for something like that. By the way the black polycarbonate wheel is a deal I agree, its stuff like that harbor freight is good for anyhow. I won't buy a mechanics tool set from there, but I will buy tools I know will probably break eventually no matter where they are made. I have set off shit tools and quality tools. Shit tools for loaning out, or over stressing, abusing their integrity just put them to the test. Harbor freight tools are great deal for stuff like that. I would also mention that by the time your done with stripping down that deck jam the wheel may be worn down enough to fit in that narrow gap. If not I think they sale various widths of the same wheel as they do in diameter.

Forrest Mayhugh I would not use the red wheel if you want to preserve your paint. Use a rubber eraser wheel to remove the adhesive. If it's on there really thick you can soak it with adhesive remover and use a plastic razor blade to scrape most of it off beforehand.

I found Harbor Freight to be the place where you buy tools that you aren't going to make a living with or for a tool that you're only going to use once or twice. I saved a lot of money on a transmission jack for my Ford F-150. It fits under the truck and you use a ratchet to turn a threaded shaft to raise and lower it. I paid $70 Bucks for it and only used it twice, but it served my needs. I couldn't see paying two to three hundred bucks or more to buy a professional jack. Like I said, it's not for making a living with, just to fix your problem. After all, you might be able to sell it because my truck transmission problem happens to other poor bastards like me.

Hey Mr. Pete, a suggestion for you. without giving away to much about yourself I thought people might be interested in knowing how much they too can charge a friend to do work. A round about charge per job someone who is halfway decent who wants to charge fair an stick it to the man!! LOL.. Thanks again for all you do!

I use the black one with 20.000rpm machine, and it works VERY well, maybe the red one needs more speed to.

Harbor freight air chesiel. worked maybe two or three times lite duty use. Its now in the garbage in two sections as the barrel stripped out and it wont stay together as one working unit. Plus not enough power when it worked. Electric wiz wheel workin good and seems to work better more i use it. Sandpaper to wet sand totally useless.all day sanding so i could buff. i was like wtf? All the grit came off after a few minutes. Took me a while to realize they stuck it in.

Harbor Freight tools definitely are not the best quality, but I found for at home projects they seam to work. I have one not far from me and they got out of a few jams. Just like you said Pete nothing made in the USA but get it in the ass.

to fit that wheel in to the channel, pop the bolt out of the wheel, run the wheel through a band saw to make it skinner, put it back together and letter rip.
