Sorry but a plugin is not "a technique"...
Hi Matt. I have been using trick #1 for years and would like to add something . It works even better if you copy the clip 2 times. That means you have 3 rows of clips. The upper two clips are moved one frame to the right. So the first one by one frame. The next one again by one frame... So 2 frames. The first clip above the original one is set to 60 percent opacity, the top one to 30 percent opacity. This often works better. And in your case with the wedding couple, you can also draw a large soft mask around the couple on both upper clips, so that the opacity of the clips only affect the outer areas. This trick also works great for time-lapse, by the way, and makes a great motion blur

@@AminYoma true. It depends of the clip. But it can help if you try to mask only the area where the flicker happens. But also here... It depends

Thanks for always being so willing and ready to show us how to up our editing skills, Matt 😃👍
Thanks for this! Just had an issue with flickering lights during an entire shoot 💚 So glad you put in an example using the plug-in with the first video, was wondering if it can be fixed without motion blur
Definitely worth it. If anyone is in the videography business, its an investment to help cut down time on editing and take care of these little nuisance.
So do you render it afterwards and then re-import the footage to colour grade? If so, what's the best video codec/format in order to keep the hdr/linear color data for color grading?
your instruction and trick come to rescue on time. I have an upcoming wedding in Sep, at a venue with a really bad flicker. I am so worried and this tool definitely will help. You are amazing as always. Thank you.

You have the best how to videos. Always informative and get right to it. If I need to learn something you have a video, I know I will get what I need out of it.
Thanks for this Matt! Such a relief to know solutions are out there. I recently started playing with Davinci as well and got the studio version, it also has a deflicker effect and other options. Just mentioning it here for people that might use multiple programs.
Jaw on floor, this plug-in works. ALMOST bought without trying, because I totally trust you, Matt!! Did try the demo in the end, and definitely buying now. Thank you, your advice is always solid!
Tried the trial version and after a couple of adjustments like threshold 100% and setting sensitivity to 1 it works fine when i render it but when I export it the flickering shows. Is there certain settings in export you have to apply?
Thanks Matt! I've got some very aggressive flicker and tried setting the sensitivity and threshold to max, but the flicker remains. Any advice on how to solve would be great. Flicker affects the entire screen (it's a large wall of LED lights).
I'm here to report that not only do they have Final Cut versions for trial, they set it up to work right out of the box, I just dragged and dropped and it works! The video was shot in England, so I got that 50hz light cycle in the background. Nothing but butter! great plugin, now I am looking for some rolling shutter shoots!
Awesome trick to remove flickering! Thanks matt, as always, a very good video from you! 🙂
hey mat! these tutorials are a life saviour but i can't afford to buy flicker free unfortunately and the other method wouldn't work on my timelapse clip. Is there any other method to do or could you do it for me if you own the flicker free plug in as the demo version worked fine on mine. Thanking in anticipation.
Wow, really good, thank you so much Matt. Even the first method worked for me already
Great stuff! Was just working on a wedding that has some nice shots with flicker! Will give this a try! Thanks Matt!

Are you able to update this video on here or in a new video? I see 2 versions of "flicker free" on their site. isn't that technically a demo? I have the crosslines that come across the specific clip im working on given, I still see the same band lines across my whole cli and not just on the light itself
Resolve has included a plug-in for that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you need to deflicker that much, may be it is because you are not using the correct shutter speed when recording
Love Flicker Free, total life saver!
Missed your bearded face, been busy with work and my wedding shoots start soon. You're such a confidence booster!
Dude, I literally just used this today (before seeing your video) I had flicker in my interviews so it was quite the render after using this plugin. It's a lifesaver though.

Hi Mat, thanks great video. Question @5:30 of the video you say, "take your video clip and render it out as its own stand-alone video file" How is that done in Premier Pro? Thanks.

Hey! I have export guides on my channel that will walk you through export settings to use to export your video :)
Hi Matt, this effect has HUGE impact on rendering. Do you know a way to fix that? Cause I have a huge clip around 5 min with flickering.
YET ANOTHER plugin that should be a built-in feature in AE and DVR. Love this career lol
Recently switched to Resolve and the Deflicker tool in that program worked reliably, not sure if it has the horsepower of digital anarchy but just another option worth trying out.
That's really helpful. I don't do much video at present but a recent shoot produced some horrible flickering and I was balking at the $357 for a full licence on Resolve or $299 for Topaz Video AI (I use Topaz a lot in my still photography. If method 1 fails then the Digital Anarchy plugin looks the best option.
HEY matt! Bought this! Do you recommend using the GPU option on m1 Macs? WHat does that mean? lol
Thank you so much! This was very helpful
Hi, could this technique help with flickering in the whole screen, like a light alarm is changing from blue to red? and makes hard to watch

It should be called Flicker $150. Lol great video!
Just bought the plugin. I shot 4k video inside an RV and the lighting kept flickering ever so slightly. Tried all the other methods...no work. Bought the app, used it, so good. Buy once cry once. Thanks for the recommendation
Could you also just set the correct region (PAL/NTSC) to avoid this in the first place? Thank you.
dude this is insane! Worked so well!
Amazing! Would it be okay to nest the clips instead of rendering it out? :)

If you have a powerful computer - otherwise, like he said, your program may crash or play very slowly.
I appreciate these tips, although I’ve never had to remove a flicker in post. Whenever, I’ve encountered a flicker I’ve been able to remove it by getting someone to turn off the offending light, or adjusting the shutter angle. A couple of times I’ve been stuck with a flicker that I couldn’t remove but we were live streaming and there was no post production.

Damn you don't change, always happy and your beard doesn't get grey at all.
very helpfull and u are explain in it a great way. thanks for making this one.
Is it not easier to take the footage with a different fps (50-60) because the flicker is caused from the frequency measured in Hz (for instance here in Australia is 60Hz and I use 50 fps)
@tylerjslattery
2 жыл бұрын
It is a result of frame rate and shutter speed combinations and during something like a wedding, you'll spend way more time and effort than it is worth trying to remove the flicker from (some) lights. You also sacrifice natural motion blur by doing it (if you can do it quickly). This is one of those cases where doing it in post is almost always the better deal.
The plug-in is heavy. I advise you to finish your edit, grade (if possible), export, and import it again into a new timeline and then add the plug-in. It will export somewhat faster. If you put in the plug-in into your first edit, you might get like 36 hours export time. So take note!
This is SOLID GOLD! Thanks soooo much!
I love the unused Anti-flicker effect there 😆I'm honestly quite shocked but at the same time this makes sense. I just did this on a clip where my drone was met with the headlights of an oncoming vehicle, so you can imagine the amount of vertical flicker going on. Threw some denoiser on there and now the shot looks clean af lol (I used the first part of Method 1 while my flickering looked just like the second part on Method 1.) I wanted to use the glowing flower bloom from the headlights to transition to the next scene and now I'm happy with how seamless it looks after such a simple fix lol wow🙏
worked like a charm thank you so much!
Thank you for this - most helpful.
Thank you so much for your tips, you're an absolute legend! 🎉

Dope! I use Neat Video and it has a flicker fix option but it adds a lot of time to render any clip with the Neat Video tool / effect. Does this Flicker Free tool increase render time?

Yes, Flicker-free will slow down rendering, but they did recently add GPU acceleration which should help. Alternatively, the latest version of neat video added GPU acceleration as well, so you may want to upgrade your version.
