What specifically did you do to soften edges at 1:01? I tried the brush tool alone as you have it shown, and it didn’t help with softening. All of the other steps worked fine though.

it took me a bit to figure out, but the reason it wasn't working for me is because the brush needs to have black selected as the main color with white as the background color, although my knowledge is not advanced enough to understand why

when i check ctrl j twice, the new layer is not only the chin selection. it is the full layer.

when i right click and say make selection. It makes a selection over the whole grid of the photo as well as the chin. Not allowing me to duplicate the chin but the whole image ... please help

Try using the pen tool again and press CMD|CTRL + Enter. If you're still selecting the whole image. I believe you have an active inverse selection somewhere... However, It's difficult to say without seeing for myself.

Can this be done in Lightroom?

Adobe Photoshop, It's not free. However, if you don't want to pay, you can achieve the same results with Photopea.
