How to Remove Bubbles in Resin - Resiners Airless vs Vacuum Chamber for Epoxy Art

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We are going to talk about a resin artist’s worst enemy: bubbles. When we mix up resin, there is no way to avoid the bubbles. We can mix really slowly to reduce them, pop them at the surface with a heat gun, use a resin with a longer work time, or other tricks you can think of. However, today we’re going to be using some machines to help us with removing bubbles. I’ve been using Resiners Airless daily for over a month now and we’re going to compare it with a traditional vacuum chamber. At the end, I’ll let you know my thoughts on them. Let me know your thoughts on this video in the comments!

    Thats different sealing on the vacuum chamber as my lid simply sits on - the silicone forms the seal against the top of the lower stainless steel pot. Also the single stage 4CFM new vacuum chambers, 13.5 litres (3.5 gallon) in size, was AU$150, or just over $100 USD off ebay, and thats about half the price of the resiners machine here. Thanks for the video, it was informative

    Thank you for watching! I’ve tried the lid sitting on top of the pot when I first got it and I think it was having trouble releasing the pressure so that’s why I do it like this. Price is definitely a factor as I mentioned and it seems like that varies with location. At a $100 difference, it makes a lot more sense to get the vacuum chamber! Both are great and gets the job done 😊

    I have tried it after mixing in mica powder and before pouring. It worked, but it seems to have taken longer for the bubbles to rise completely. You may get better results with liquid pigments and tints. I don’t really use those for coloring (I like a little bit of shimmer from micas), but I will definitely make note next time if I do.

    Can i use the Resiners Airless for my 1:1 ratio table boat resin?

  • @EllafulDeco

    @EllafulDeco

    5 ай бұрын

    No, table top resin is thick and the work time is too short for the machine. You might have to look into a pressure pot for that, but I’m not too familiar with pressure pots.

    I used TotalBoat’s High Performance resin that I mentioned in the beginning of this video for the pieces shown since they’re thin (~1/4”). It’s good for flowers for me, but just doesn’t allow me to pour too deep. For flower preservation, larger blocks typically 3” deep, I use their ThickSet/ThickSet Fathom. You can check out some flower preservation videos that I have on my channel to see how I work with them🙂

    The vacuuming process eliminates most of the bubbles before you pour. When you pour, you will introduce a small amount of bubbles (as you would normally) and if you use any inclusions like the fruits and flowers, that will also introduce bubbles into your piece. You will still need a heat gun to pop bubbles and should stick around until the end of the work time of your resin to pop any bubbles that rise to the surface. It will be a lot less, but there can still be bubbles. As for the letter, the fruits are actually orange slices and they are dried.

    I find my resiners unit is useless. No matter what resin I use it still has thousands of micro bubbles in it.

  • @EllafulDeco

    @EllafulDeco

    You can try a vacuum chamber and if that solves the issue, maybe you have a faulty unit. If not, then your resin may not be compatible with the vacuuming process. You may want to look into a pressure pot for bubbles, but I’m not too familiar with those myself.
