The LED needles pop right off with a gentle pull once you get the lens off the cluster (6 screws along the back of the cluster edge). You can harvest them from the same year SC's at the junk yard but be aware that the polarity seems to have changed from 94 on I believe. Very strange as I took a few off and they didnt work on my 92. I changed the polarity of the test light and they lit up. Also the 2 large needles are not interchangeable: the tach has a counterweight in it and the speedo does not. Just check the polarity of your 2 little power pins that flank the needle shafts in the dash before you replace the needles with known (or unknown) year replacements. If you still have power at the pins you can pull the burned LED strip out and replace with a single led at the tip (or some in series) but be aware that the voltage of the LED must match the original series LEDs. ie. if you put a 3V led on the tip and power it up, it will fail quickly as the voltage needs to be reduced with resistors to match the new LED rating. The process for resetting the air bag is jumping Tc and AB pins of the diag port to ground,alternating this while singing "staying alive" (one per second) for about 5 seconds *. Strange but thats what it takes! Almost like CPR as the air bag emits a pulsed "heartbeat" to this dash light and if it doesnt get this pulse at "boot up" (loss of connection) it will light until it gets reset. " * Ignition ON......Start by touching the end of the Tc wire to the ground wire for one second. After a second, instantly remove the Tc wire and replace it with the AB wire touching the ground wire for one second. Now instantly replace it with the Tc wire for the 3rd second, then instantly replace it with the AB wire for the fourth second. Finally, instantly replace the AB wire with the Tc wire and hold the Tc wire on the ground wire for several seconds. After several seconds the air bag light will blink fast in a 64msec cycle, this means code 41 has been cleared...So if that didn't make sense here's the short version: Tc + ground, AB + ground, Tc + ground, AB + ground, Tc + ground and hold..." If you got a 3 way toggle switch just wire Tc-ground-AB and use the switch back and forth in this 1-second CPR method.

So I dropped the 2 Philips and they fell under the odometer and I can't find them

Tanin did a great job rebuilding the cluster for my 1992 Lexus SC400. Unfortunately, my cluster was put back in with the battery connected and I have an Air Bag light that won't extinguish itself. At about the 6:00 minute mark you mention needing to "jump wires at the diagnostic connection by the drivers side foot" to cure. Can you please post how to do this? That would be of great help to us who made this mistake. Thanks! Dennis

Hey I have recently bought a 92 sc300 and the odometer isn’t lighting up and I can’t see the miles at all. Everything lights up but that one part, and of course the needles. But what would need to be fixed there

I want to switch my speedometer from kmh to mph any tips before I start, like would it work properly 1st try or do I need to tune it sum type of way so it knows I switched it

I just recently got a 93 sc400 and now the backlighting of the gauges is out (the lights on the needles too) and will periodically come on. My gauges all work and so do all of the warning lights. Does anyone know where I should look for?

Tanin Auto Electronix yes I agree I was asking if I could fix it myself by soldering or something. Or replacing a capacitor. If so which one. I'm capable of circuit board repair if told what part to fix. I am able to fix the gm 03 to 06 stepper motors properly. Just looking for a tip and some help

You might want to check out some car forums for what you are in search of. If you haven't done this repair before, learning on your cluster might not be the best idea.

It is a very common issue with the gauges. If you decide to go with us for the repair, it is $69.99 (diagnosis) + $40-80 pper gauge (wont know how much until we start the actual repair). We recommend doing a preventive repair on the RPM because that will likely fail too. You can also have us do the lighting repair (199.99) too while it is with us, since that's an even more common issue. We can customize the lighting options for free (convert to LED back lighting and needle colors. We know that you mentioned fixing it yourself but we wanted to let you know what would all be covered and able to be repaired with us. I used the 3m cleaner by maguire I think and it messed up the cluster looks horrible

Meguiar's PlastX is the finishing polish that we use. If you have staining or small scratches you can use a heavier compound first.
