Super video. The tire dealer didn’t reset my TPMS at my last rotation. This video saved me an hour or more of waiting for them to do it. My 2011 Silverado did exactly like the video.

I purchased a reset tool for under £10. It worked perfectly, all very straightforward. Then I saw this clever video, and realised I could probably have managed without it. However it's less hassle using the tool than having to deflate and inflate 4 tyres every time. I guess, instead of deflating the tyres , you could inflate them a fraction, and that would save the deflate, reflate thingy. Of course you have to do it in less than 5 mins!

thanks it worked for my 2011 sierra you have to use your original key fob though, 2011 must be the last year this will work on. I used to just rotate my tires before myself without resetting which is fine (you will know your pressures just not exactly which tire is which) but this year I bought new summer rims and I just switched them for my winters and got a service tire system warning, I totally forgot since I have a different set of wheels I would have to relearn them

Thank you for the video.Just one comment. It was not that the computer noticed pressure drop. If it can notice, it already knows about the sensor. It is the sudden drop of tire pressure that triggered the sensor inside the wheel to broadcast its ID and pressure info out. The computer just listen and whatever sensor reports during that period, the computer will learn its id. Triggering the sensor by letting air out is not quite reliable and cumbersome. Later they changed the to procedure to using a small trigger device instead of letting air out.

Super cool... thanks for the demo. I'd like to mention something if I may... a - " how to... tire shop tip". you know in real world, faster is the key for us as a mechanics... instead of using a pocket screw dr, we use the tire pressure gauge(no air hose connected to it) to release air out of the tire. it is safer for the tire valve but also quick for the job and looks more professional, you know we are we are always in a hurry...and finding a always missing pocket screw is always a PITA. and since the tire gauge is already in your hand it makes more sense.

+ScannerDanner oh... I forgot my question for you. How to change the tire air pressure threshold? a demo about it will be super, since this is a common recurrent problem. my experience with 2500 HD tires is: most of the Gm Trucks they either come with TPMS threshold too low or too hi. so, no matter what pressure you set in the tire, the TPMS msg and light are always on... the fix is setting up tpms threshold according to tire application. saludos.

+Timothy Lingo the tpms light will come on for a tire pressure issue , if it is solid that will refer to being under or over inflated. typically its +/- 5% of spec. the tpms light is normally solid. if your light is flashing its refers to a fault, a sensor didnt learn, battery in senor died and lost signal, broken sensor or in some cases people took the sensors out and placed normal valve stems in the wheels. You can buy a relearn tool , really simple to use for around $100 and as long as you know how to put your car/truck in relearn you can use the tool to relearn your tires but if you take your car/truck to a shop for service majority of them have the correct tools. issues is at the dealership i work which is a GM one when we get other makes in its a hassle to relearn as my tools are for GMs not FORD ect.

If only it was this simple on my Toyota Yaris (Prius C) - you have to connect to the ecu via the OBD2 socket to reprogram the codes or, as I did when fitting winter tires, buy universal sensors and clone the already existing sensors in the summer tires (Program the new sensors with the same codes as the old sensors.)

Hello Scannerdanner. I am having trouble resetting two different GMC vehicles. One is an ‘07 Yukon Denali and the other is an ‘11 Sierra. Neither will confirm the right front sensor. I have had my scanner on it and all sensor batteries are good. Both trucks say unlearned and both trucks say 147.8 psi on the scanner but show dash marks in the DIC. Please shed some light on this if possible. I have been trying on and off for mths on the Yukon and 2hrs on the truck today. On the Sierra today I have reprogrammed the RCDLR, tried changing tire sensor placement as to eliminate possible RF interference, as well as clearing all codes and rerunning the module scan and code check. The only code I get is C0750.

+torcher78 Amen to that, preaching to the choir now. If you offered $15 extra for them to do this, they still wouldn't because they don't wanna in the first place - lying to the customer gets them their way and now you really know where they are coming from. We are just bags of money to them.

+bgregg55 most shops have a relearn tool to activate the sensors in the tires so the module can pick it up and it learns that way. the senors and modules work off of an RF signal. I work as a tech for a gm dealership after every rotation or replacement of tires/ sensors we put the module in relearn mode and use a tool that sends a RF signal to the sensors that causes it to honk/beep and you go around all 4 tires. But each make is different. some Toyota's have a button on the dash you press and drive the car above 15mph for a distance and it relearns from that. '

If you own a newer Nissan 2012 or newer if I recall. If the TPMS light is on, turn your key on and set your tire pressures. The car will see the change and turn the light off.

... hey Scanner Danner ... i was told that Aftermarket FOB KEYS cannot be used to relearn the tire pressure ... if you hold those two keys down the car does not honk with Aftermarkets ... i recently bought and Aftermarket Dorman Fob Key for my parents recently bought used 2008 Saturn because the OEM remote was broken a long time ago by the original owner ... and when it did not work i called Dorman Tech Line and he said aftermarkets dont cant communicate with the cars TPMS system so i would have to buy an OEM fob key -------- any thoughts on that?

I work for GM for 3 years. They stopped this feature on 2012 and newer vehicles because in my opinion they realized theses sensors have long distance and you'll inadvertently relearn your coworkers tire sensor in a crowded shop doing a routine pressure check and sometimes not realize it. Because these do not set a tire light immediately after they lose the signal the customer may take the vehicle and have a foreign tire sensor learned to the vehicle and eventually have the light come on and cause the customer to come back inconveniently. 2012 and newer and gm body control modules are designed to only to receive the sensors serial number with a radio frequency activating tool. Imagine if you have a faulty sensor stuck in pressure fluctuation mode, it will make every car impossible to relearn properly within a 100 foot radius. It can be a headache to the tech if they don't know the potential to these sensors. They won't teach you what I told you in a service manual. It comes from working a year in a high volume GM dealer by trial and error.

Brandon Tracy - You are correct and the editor won't acknowledge it. The GM Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is designed to provide information to the customer allowing them to better maintain proper tire pressure in their vehicle. Proper tire pressure is important for optimizing safety, fuel economy, vehicle performance, and tire wear. Because the GM Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) recognizes a unique sensor ID in each tire, a TPM relearn must be performed after every tire rotation. On past model vehicles, there were two procedures to relearn the TPMS: a Dealer Procedure and a Customer Procedure. After putting the vehicle in relearn mode, the Dealer Procedure used a TPM Tool (J-46079) or equivalent to activate each TPM sensor individually (Tool Method). This allowed each rotated tire/TPM sensor ID to be stored in the new corner location. The Customer Procedure required increasing or decreasing air pressure in each tire by one psi (Delta Pressure Method) to active the sensor allowing each rotated tire/TPM sensor ID to be stored in the new corner location. When using either the Dealer or Customer Procedure, there was the possibility of picking up and storing a stray pressure sensor signal ID from another vehicle that may have been broadcasting n the area. If a stray sensor was inadvertently stored, the system would not recognize the stray sensor ID and the vehicle would set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and illuminate the TPM System light. To commonize procedures and eliminate the possibility of storing stray sensor signals, starting with Late 2011 Model Year GM vehicles and all vehicles build after that point will support just one TPM relearn procedure - the Dealer Procedure. This change allows both Dealers and Customers a common, faster, and more efficient method to relearn tire pressures after each tire rotation. Because all future TPM Relearns will be performed using the Dealer Procedure, customers wanting to rotate their own tires and perform their own TPM Relearn will be required to utilize a relearn tool. GM has designed and manufactured an inexpensive Relearn Tool (EL-5044 specifically for this application. Owner’s manuals have been updated accordingly, to verify the relearn method to be used, reference the Owner’s Manual - Tire Rotation - TPMS Sensor Matching Process

I dont know about this cause I have a 2012 Escalade and it has the tire sensors on them,I hate them !Already replaced a few but honestly I think its the raggedy CADILLAC WHEELS thats causing me all my tire issues due to flaking bad on inside of backside and of course I didnt know the cadillac wheels had these awful issues ahead of time and now year later Im still having issues with tire pressure,

@@beverlyjennings1638 - The TPMS sensors were only designed to last 5-10 years, depending how much mileage they see (they can go into a lower power 'idle' state when not in use) and the type of weather they see (cold weather really hurts battery life). The biggest issue is that no one knows when to replace them until they have one die...and chances are, that's not around new tires. The best advice is if they're older than five years, change them all on your next set of tires.

My tire pressure sensor on the driver's side front tire gives incorrect reading. It reads 27. I added air and more air. Finally got it to read 29. Checked tire with pressure gauge and it read 55. Used two other pressure gauges and they read 53. How can I clear the computer screen that keeps popping up with the incorrect information.

Then you will not be able to do this. There is an issue with one of your sensors. You'll need to have it checked for a specific trouble code, then go from there.
