I’ve got a 1979 Strat that weighs 12.5lbs. In the end I got another body made that weighs 5lbs and transferred everything over. It might be a partscaster to some, but it’s a much better guitar.

Or.... Plane a quarter inch off the back instead and not worry about rerouting the cavities. Chamber the body then glue a cap on the back. Guitar will not change in outward appearance. A ton less work and a better end product.

I have a 12.5 lb boat anchor of a bass,(import ash) that I would be more than happy to start drilling holes in. Also has a "P" style pick guard that will hide quite a bit of "reduction surgery" wish me luck.

I didn’t mind the look with the holes showing. Lol

How would you deal with the neck dive issues? Are you going to trim parts of the headstock?
