    Hi mate, I am about to do this myself and wondered how you got on, are the sponges remaining dry inside?

    Also another thing about using kitchen sponge, some others suggested using closed cells sponge to reduce water holding?

    Just had a go at this. Have tested the car (obviously not a public road...) up to 80mph and it seems much quieter. I was surprised at how little factory foam was behind the seal. Only 2 or 3 pieces in a couple of spots. Noise was coming from everywhere there was a gap

    Hello. I already did the soundproofing behind the outer seals. However, I cannot fully understand where to stick the tape for the small window on the inner side - should it bond together the glass and the frame or just put it on frame itself? Could you please explain this in more detail? Thanks a lot

    You can buy weather strip "filling" polyurethan rubber to stick inside the factory sealing so the windows and doors will closing more tight. It cost almost nothing on Ebay ect :)

    Greetings from Canada, Dr. Sunka! I find myself driving my TT MK2 Quattro Coupe a lot on the highway lately and was wondering what your thoughts were regarding the deployment of the rear spoiler: does the spoiler negatively affect the TT's fuel efficiency when it is engaged (ie. in the up position)? Also, what engine RPM would you suggest is the most fuel efficient when setting cruise control on a relatively flat surface? As a physicist, I thought you would give a more expert advice than what I can find online. Cheers!

    Helo, as far as I know the rear wing was introduced to improve down-force on rear wheels at high speed, because it was an issue. It should not affect fuel efficiency too much, I would say its negligible. However, it is important that the spoiler is out above 100+ km/h for safety. For RPM I would say around 1800, since max torque (for 2.0 L engine) is reached at 1800 and is around constant until 4500, hence this shall be the most efficient RPM.

    @@sunkazz Am I missing something? Cruise control you set desired speed not rpm, the rpm varies to maintain the speed set?

    It’s almost 2 years since u did this fix. How did the sponges doing? Have you replace the sponge in this 2 years time? Any unnecessary rusty build ups on the sealed area?

  • @sunkazz

    @sunkazz

    Hello, for now everything looks fine. Did not replace them. I'm washing car weekly. However, I feel that properly sealing the small window from the inside is more important than the sponges. I replaced those tapes because I tinted my windows in the meantime. Best!

  • @kbjinsam

    Hello again, do you think if silicone sealant is used to seel the gap for the small window, it will work? as tape may come off after some heat?

  • @sunkazz

    @sunkazz

    6 жыл бұрын

    It could work, but in my opinion it does not look nice, I guess. The clothing tape is black, and it is almost invisible on the tinted windows. I have it on for around 2 years, and it is still very well attached to the windows frame. The heat does not damage the glue of this tape, this is why I prefer it. The classical electrical tape is another story. It gets swoodgy over time and heat. The clothing tape does not. If you will do experiments with other items, please tell us what works best for you. Best! ;)

    dr. sunka That’s good. Have you thought of sorting out the noise from the back lid under the rear windscreen. As it vibrates and wobble a lot when driving because the two pieces bang on each other’s. Any thoughts how to make it quiet?

    would the sponge not soak up water when it rains and rust the metal overtime?

  • 7 жыл бұрын

    Hi! A good question, already discussed with friends. Basically, there is not much gaps for water to leak in - the sponges are not wet (checked after a proper car wash and after a heavy rain). But! Will take a look every few months to see any changes, possible corrosion signs. Anyway, it is easy to remove sponges if necessary.

    Using closed cell foam would eliminate any water retention issues while also being a better sound insulator - expanding foam tape (used to install windows) would work well.

    i have the mk 1 TT and i don't have that issue! i wonder if the 2012 TTRS has the same issue

  • 7 жыл бұрын

    On the Mk2 (2006-2014) the issue is very common, judging from the forums' complains, so I guess the 2012 TTRS could also have the same problem. The thing is you cannot see it with the naked eye, as nothing is damaged or looks damaged on the seal of the window.. But yet.. the wind noise at 150 km/h is horrible. But luckily few household tools can save many headaches.. :D
