    great hack tips! i do think that alot of the time i would never be looking to pay for those cash prices so yes you are saving money if you paid cash but realistically you were not going to buy in cash in the first place so i take the CPPs with a grain of salt. i try to save my points to maximize more flights than maximize a potential aspirational travel trip, but to each their own.

    I completely agree! Points are great to cover the cost of normal flights or experience something that would be unattainable if paying the cash. It really depends on what you’re looking to do but if you just wanna travel as much as possible, then obviously using points to cover the cost of normal economy flights is your best bet even if the CPP is not the highest! Thanks for the comment!

    Airfare on Chase travel portal from Cle to Funchal in premium economy is 4800 dollars. But booking direct thru American its 2200 dollars. So I booked thru AA and used the cash back on my card to pay for almost half of my ticket. I find airfare on the portal is way more expensive than booking with airline. Why is that?

    Thanks for the video!! Just a quick question, how do you tell you’re getting a good value even with a good CPP? Can’t airlines artificially just inflate the cash value so your CPP goes up even when you’re spending a lot of points? Thank you!

    Great question! What I always do is look for the same flight on Google Flights or another 3rd party site to see what the true out of pocket price would be!

    Might also be worth checking similar flights on other airlines altogether because you might just be dealing with an airline that's unnecessarily expensive no matter which platform you're searching with

  • @fsmnt

    CCP is just a gauge, at the end of the day most of us won't pay cash price to fly first class. So we shouldn't take it like the CPP is absolute. Like what the video started with you know that a minimum CPP you get for any redemption is 1 CPP. Anything above is a win if you are doing something you want to do. For example, I redeemed Business class tickets for my recent travel. I could calculate the value per point as suggested here. However, since I would NEVER spend that kind of cash. So the cash value to me is the economy ticket multiplied by 2 (for the premium experience). Which I think gives me a more realistic value of my miles.

    fsmnt is correct that CCP is just a gauge. Award travel and personal "value" is individual to each person. It's impossible to measure someone's happiness/satisfaction/need with an award trip, so just think of CCP as a vague "am I using points effectively" measurement.

  • @DallasRSnider
    @DallasRSnider11 ай бұрын

    Okay, so in order to use points on a first class or international business class seat, it has to be a reward seat? So if I’m planning a specific trip to Ireland on specific days, I may not get to use points due to there not being a reward seat for those days?

  • @DailyDrop

    @DailyDrop

    11 ай бұрын

    Great question! As a general rule of thumb, it’s important to be flexible with your dates, especially when booking business and first class seats using points. Of course, there are exceptions to that and every airline has different methods of making award seats available. It’s definitely worth looking for your specific dates and seeing if an award seat happens to be available and what other options and variables you can play with to have the best overall experience! That being said, if you were just looking to book a flight with points through a travel portal, then you shouldn’t have any issue finding a flight for your specific date. Hope this helps!

    This is awesome information, but it is also important to know that the flight examples were one way ticket because you don't want to be stuck and no ticket to go home

    I’m new to the hacks world. I love the thought of transferring points. Once points are transferred can you change your mind and transfer back to chase without loosing points?

  • @chuckpowell9554

    @chuckpowell9554

    No, once you transfer out they are "stuck" there. So it's almost always best to find award availability (and confirm it) before transferring points.

    Just because you're getting a super good redemption rate doesn't mean you aren't getting that rate on a flight that was overpriced to begin with - you could still be getting goated into using points on a more expensive flight than what you would otherwise want. Sure he found an Emirates Skywards flight with a great redemption rate, but that isn't exactly a budget airline or even a moderately priced one. Doesn't mean he didn't provide great tips, just means don't forget that redemption rates are just one factor out of many.

  • @DailyDrop

    Great point here! Award seats are great to cover the cost of a normal flight, or in the case of the Emirates example, allow you to experience a flight that may otherwise be unattainable without points. I’d say always start by looking for an award to see it through the transfer partner and if you aren’t able to find anything, booking through a travel portal is always a safe back up!

    Not dumb at all! Transfer points can be confusing! Generally transferring points is only from bank to airline (there are a few exceptions), but in this case, no - you're not able to transfer your Delta miles over to Virgin.
