Using Fairlight, this is how to record voiceovers in Davinci Resolve 18. A quick tutorial on how we can use a USB microphone for Mac or PC for high-quality audio in Davinci Resolve without 3rd party software. I also share some helpful tips and tricks to quickly detect your USB microphone and set up your bus/patch settings so that you can arm your track and record in a few easy steps.

I love how detailed you made this, it's so helpful!
FINNNAAALLLYYY It's working....Thank you so much Paul...I tried for so long while watching so many YT tutorials...nothing worked until this video...Totally appreciate your efforts..Subscribed!!!👍👍😄
Thank you for this! Quick and to the point
This included steps that were not shared in similar videos. Solved my problem - Thank you!
Thank you, this is exactly what i've been looking for. I want to start adding voice overs to my videos.
Thank you for this straight forward guide!
Thanks the only one that helped me!
I watched another video prior to this one and couldn’t figure it out. I almost gave up all together thanks for the in-depth explanation ❤🎉
Thanks! You did a great job.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was very helpful You're very underrated
Thank you so much your tearch. Now i can do it
You solved my problem telling me about that R on the left, thanks
Thanks
omg tysm
Thanks for the info. One suggestion for everyone during these tutorials is to use a larger cursor and/or colored cursor so it is easier to follow your quick movements around the site.
Thanks for the great help. Is there a way to record a voice over while seeing the timeline playing ? Nervermind, I can see it in very small in dual screen mode :) All I have to do is resize that section.
I was hoping to hear you tell me how to use the audio meters while recording to ensure the input volumes were sufficient. IOW, was I too close to the mic or too far away? Do you have any tips on that?
can Fairlight use effects for pre-processing of the voice kinda like OBS filters do?
Hi, I have tried the same steps but no success. Is it necessary to use external microphone or you can use the built in microphone in the laptop for voiceover. Thanks
can i set. two different inputs to different trucks? Like... internal mic to 1... external usb mic to 2
So I am not learning from this if you can record the voice over whilst viewing the video that you are recording the voiceover for?
I have a Valband Lavalier microphone but it's not popping up in the settings for me, not even in DR. Is there anything else I can try?
Hey thaks! I was just wondering how the heck can I talk over my videos.
ohh thank you buddy great job ! but so difficult really in Davinci resolve, is so much easy in filmora.

Davinci resolve can be pretty tricky to learn, especially at first! It’s very powerful, and when you take the time to practice and use it, Davinci Resolve offers lots of great features.
Thank you the south lot are you going along with slower I was able to get through this a lot faster because I didn’t have to keep playing it over and over again because you went too fast. Some other people could take a good lesson from you. Thank you
TY that was really helpful! I have to mention (I'm sorry)....I cannot stand background music while someone is speaking it is a huge annoyance & I don't get it. But, of course, my personal pet peeve I really do appreciate this video TY!
One day I will buy all these equipment and do this. Hence, commenting here so that it is easy to find this video once I am ready. All right, let me now go and prepare for interviews so that I can get a job to afford the equipment. It's 2 AM now - probably should get some sleep. But wait, need to brush before that. Ah! I need to watch a video while brushing... so let me watch a video on "How to Record Voiceovers in DaVinci Resolve 18" :D
Hi Paul, great tutorial - what if you want to do an overdub recording where the artist is listening to a previously recorded track while adding the overdub one on a different track? Using the original track as the reference source, without inducing feedback into the process?

Hey! In that case you’ll need to make sure your output is set to headphones. When arming your recording, you’ll want to make sure it’s a separate track so as to not overwrite the original recording. You can play with your computer’s volume settings or within davinci resolve’s audio attributes to adjust the level so you can hear the previous track without it being too loud.
my track is not getting red and its do not recording but if i click on r its showing and i can listen sound but its not recording nb am noob in english
Oh dear god... This is complicated. It's much easier in Premiere Pro... and Audition that i use to record voice. I hoped it wouldn't be this hard in DaVinci. Thanks, now i know hove to do it.
Hey Paul, Great video! I have a slight problem though and I was hoping you could help me out. I am using the RodeCaster Pro II and I cannot get a signal into DaVinci for the life of me. I did everything you did in this video and when clicking "R" to record arm the track, I don't get any levels in my meter. I hit the record button and do a test recording and when I stop the recording, again there is no audio being recorded. Can you please help me out; not sure what I am doing wrong at this point.

I have the exact same problem with my Rodecaster pro 2, did you figure out how to get it working? Can’t find any solutions for this and searched really hard

@@tedsyhlen5075 negative! Still can’t figure it out. I just end up using a USB microphone instead to do voice overs now which is kind of annoying c l because I love the RodeCaster. I hope they came out with a firmware or update.
I've done these steps. When I click on input, my microphone appears multiple times and none seem to be working. I am using a headset. I have it connected. It is my default mic. Yet no matter which of the many same paths I patch, they do no seem to be working.
Strike 2 @2:00 - this isn't a stereo mic. Look at the meters kicking identically.
im still not seeing the record button. idk why they would format it like this
Is this a feature that you only can have if you pay for it? I am currently using the Public Version and it looks like I'm unable to edit the Input/Output.

This is available in the free version as that’s what I’m currently using as well. These steps should work for you too if you’re on the same or latest version.
why does everyone elses davinci look different than mine? ive had it for a while, and the lifetime studio version. looked the same for a while. just opened it for the first time in a few months and looks completely different.
The best way to set the input is to go to preferences and set it manually.
most of the time you'd want to create a mono track for a mono mic, otherwise you're just wasting disk space :)
thank bro
REALLY strong, knowledgeable start to the video, where you show us your Rode NT-USB microphone backwards. You're talking through your pop shield to the rear of the mic. Not great.

You do realize… this isn’t the audio source at the start of the video? There is a mic boomed above me. This is me explaining the mic I’ll be using for the tutorial. In fact it has no bearing on the tutorial at all.

@@paulAntill OK. But you've mounted it backwards. And it's not a stereo mic, which you explicitly state it is. Just for the record.
Under Source: Audio inputs, one cannot see the device, despite the input source being selected in the sound panel. Instead, it shows a bunch of nonsensical choices: monitor out, monitor output, bus direct, system generator, track direct, and track reproduction. yeah! not useful. A good video tutorial would have shown how to go about adding your source input to that list.
Hello
This way to many steps for just recording sounds....

You can always just use Audacity, but when you start to do it more and more it comes like second nature to you in my experience.

Yeah, for some reason, after following all the steps, not getting the audio. Then just opened Adobe Audition and just pressed record and it worked fine. 🤷♂
