Solid tips man and also great examples!
I really trust this channel! Those tips are really valuable, because they are based on audio science. Obviously, people on youtube may give good tips, because of their personal experience on mixing, recording, etc. But not all of the youtubers know audio engineering, and can´t explain most of the tips they give. Here I see that your content is really designed to make people understand what they are doing, and not just following rules that sometimes doesn´t make sense. Well done.

Wow! Thank you, Leonardo! That’s exactly what I’m going for. I’ve always felt that it’s easier to understand when to use certain techniques if you know why they work. I really appreciate your comment!
I enjoyed the video. Some of the ideas remind me of ideas my photography mentor taught me: aim to master the skills such that you don't need any Photoshop afterwards. You can still use it to tweak things, but try to not need it at all. This forces you to get better and better. Like you explained with the finding the best microphone position. It's better to try to get the sound you want when you record it, at least as close as you can, rather than relying on post processing to fix mistakes.
very simple, direct and humble explanation bro.. good job

Wow. I love the demo between internal mic and external mic. The next time im buying an acoustic guitar, I would definitely go for no built-in mic.

If you’re just using it with DI to a pc then yea but internal mic sounds better on an amp and my guitar can blend the pickup with one of two internal mics that give different tones doesnt sound that good on DI on pc tho
very helpful thanks. I wave the 2i2 but wasnt setting up the levels high enough, thanks again
Direct to the point. No bs. 👍
Really Helpful and on point. Thanks 👌

Very helpful video. I have that Scarlett but with Garageband for iOS (iPad), there is no easy way to see what dB your signal is at. Any suggestions?
Thank you for the explanation. Is this audio interface useful only while recording or does it help for live shows also.

Hi, I like the way you explain such key phenomena regarding sound engineering. Could you elaborate (or redirect me to another source) about recording a solo spanish guitar with nylon strings? Because there are no pickups, the frequency spectrum is different and there is particular "plasticy" quality to it which I find to overcome in the recording. Selection of microphones, methods or processing in DAW would be very much appreciated. Or if you could redirect me to some other author. Anyway, thanks for doing your videos, the information and way you deliver it are awesome! Kamil
I have a moon59 dynamic mic and it wont pick up any sound when using it with focusrite 18i20. Gain levels are ok on the front display but not on the DAW. You have to scream so loud to get it to record something, not even the guitar. Any advices?
Could one use the same set up for a live performance and take advantages of plug ins in the DAW ?
How would we connect our camera/phone to the Scarlett 212 to video record when the microphone and guitar mike are plugged in to slots one and two?
I'm having an audio issue. I'm recording my Martin D-15M through the 2i2 and the mic that came with it. I'm also using Ableton 11 lite. I've set up my Audio Preferences as ASIO as well. When I play back my arrangements the volume of the playback is extremely low even with the volume of my headphones on the 2i2 unit all the way up to max. The volume in the headphones coming from the mic even when not recording isn't very loud at all. I can't figure out what's causing it. Could it be the pre amp in the 2i2? The Scarlet mic? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm unable to actually utilize the system until this issue is corrected.
Can u help me out i have an audio interface Vault Ai22 i used to record my guitar through this interface and my guitar is semi acoustic so after recording my guitar i get some kind of noise and very low sound what to do..?
1:21 This cannot be undone or changed later? Recording to the left. Maybe you want to hear it (direct monitor) it just on the left.

👍👍👍Thank you for putting out this video on how to record an acoustic guitar by using a microphone. I am still a little confused about how to combine using a microphone to record an accoustic guitar with a second microphone for a vocal track? Using my Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 with Reaper, I combined one microphone for my guitar and a second microphone for vocals. I did this because I wanted to make a live recording (rather than recording separate tracks) to preserve the natural performance of my song. I recorded the song, but then discovered that both the guitar and vocals were mixed together and only played through my left headphone. Is there a way for me to record an acoustic guitar and vocal using two microphones, or is the Scarlet 2i2 interface only limited to using only one microphone and a direct line/jack into the guitar? Thanks for any advice you can offer me.

It’s possible to record both at once (to separate tracks. Here’s a tutorial: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYen2JltkZCtdaQ.html To fix the “recording to only the left side” problem, check out this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jIyLzsNsntaofpc.html
Is it possible before recording to choose efect (phazer, distortion or wahwah..) then record.I dont like to play with clean then change efect etc..Any reply would be great. Many thanks sry for english

Hi, Dingo Pes. Yes. There are a few ways to do this. First, you can connect your guitar to a pedal board and then connect your pedalboard to your audio interface input. This is a good option if you want to use phaser, chorus, distortion, or wahwah pedals. You can also place FX on the channel you are recording in your DAW. In order to hear those FX, you’ll need to turn on input monitoring. This will let you listen to the FX in real-time while you’re recording. The problem here is latency. Some systems will take too long to process the signal, causing a delay that can be distracting while performing. The third option is to use an audio interface with built-in DSP, like the UA Apollo Twin (there are many others, too). This is similar to option 2, but the FX are processed inside the interface instead of in the DAW. This greatly reduces latency. Check out this video to learn more about latency: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hGalxKiTqMaqmrQ.html Check out this video to learn more about the Apollo Twin interface: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKdqr8yeoZSaqJs.html
If I only have 1 mic can I plug in a guitar to one input and a mic to the other to record in stereo and if so then is that a better option than using just one mic and record in mono?
@AudioUniversity

You can do this. You may run into time alignment issues though which can lead to phase cancellation. It wouldn’t hurt to try though!
Can you tell me the cable name ... which is connet a guitar to focusrite 2i2 ?

do you suggest buying rode nt1a for acoustic guitar.

Yes! It sounds good on acoustic guitar (in my opinion).
I don't understand. I have the sm57, sm58, and shure sm7b. Including a cloudlifter. I have to crank the gain so high and barely get -20 ish dB if I'm finger styling. If I'm strumming it's fine but still. I have a Scarlett solo interface.

Finger style guitar always requires a lot of gain at a good distance from the mic. Especially with a dynamic. I’d recommend a condenser microphone. You won’t need as much preamp gain.

There are some options in the description below the video, but they are kinda pricey if you’re on a tight budget. Here is a good option for around $200: imp.i114863.net/do0kM3 Here is a pair of the most affordable mics I’ve seen: imp.i114863.net/yR3jXB

Just found your channel, amazing content. Straight to the point and informative. Just to add a note about the guitar pickups. Ive often got some really nice results using the pickup at the same time as a mic, both routed to different tracks. I then balance between the two, using the pickup to add detail. you can hear an example here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qomhurpwfMjMedY.html
