    I would recommend an external microphone for the highest quality audio. In this video, I'm using a Samson Q2U microphone. I like it because of it's audio quality for the price and ease of use. You can certainly import audio from elsewhere and edit it in GarageBand. I hope that helps!

    Hey! I'm a little late to this video but it's a great job! Thank you. My question is about my friend and I who want to podcast together remotely. How would you recommend we get the highest quality audio recording? The plan was to use Discord as our meeting space (Discord stage channel), then record our individual mic inputs of the conversation via a recording app, then upload the audio files into two tracks on Garage band. What are your thoughts? Could Garage band also function as that recording app for our call over Discord? Thank you!

  • @liftpodcasting

    I've not used the m-track 2x2 before, but it looks like it just has one XLR mic input. If that's the case, you wouldn't be able to record the mics on two separate tracks, but you could get an XLR splitter to plug two mics into one input. Thanks! I’m starting a podcast and have a cheap mixer. When I try to record separate audio it only shows up as my usb mic which is basically just all the mics running through the mixer. Is there a way to change that or is it just because it’s running through a mixer?

  • @liftpodcasting

    @liftpodcasting

    Жыл бұрын

    In my experience, it depends on the mixer. Some send out one mixed output, so GarageBand only sees the one output. Some send out multiple channels, so you'll see something like "Mixer," ""Mixer (1)," "Mixer (2)," etc. I have a mixer where you have to turn on "multitrack recording" in order for it to output multiple channels. I would look up your mixer and see if it has multitrack recording capabilities. I hope that helps!

    @@Helloacx Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is a simple way to do that in GarageBand. You can add in music after a recording by dragging a music file into a new track. If you want to record music "live to tape," it might be easier to get an audio recorder with an input for you mic and an input for your computer.

    If GarageBand is not recognizing a second audio input, you might be able to create an "aggregate device" using your Mac's Audio MIDI setup. Here is a walkthrough I found on that: support.apple.com/en-us/HT202000 For recording phone interviews, I prefer Zoom. Just make sure to have it set to record separate audio files for each participant. That is a checkbox under Zoom .us > Preferences > Recording. I hope that helps!

    GarageBand doesn't have a great noise reduction option unfortunately. One thing that could help is to make sure you're using the cardioid polar pattern on your Yeti (the one that looks like a heart). The other polar patterns will pick up more room noise.

    Difference between recording podcast in stereo vs mono? Benefits? Thank you

  • @liftpodcasting

    @liftpodcasting

    Жыл бұрын

    If you record your podcast in mono, the same audio will come out of both the left and right speakers. If it's recorded in stereo, the sound that come out of the left and right speakers will be different. I would recommend recording in mono unless you have a specific reason to record in stereo. Mono files are half the size of stereo files, and it will sound balanced in the ears of the listener. It will also sound the same if the listener is only using one earbud, for example. Stereo can be used if you are playing around with sound design. For example, you can make it sound like your speaker is walking across the room by panning their audio from right to left. I hope this helps!

    Hi I have a 2 QU2 mics that are plugged in via XLR to a COMICA AD3 that then is plugged in to my mac with a headphone jack. Why am I not seeing both mics?

  • @liftpodcasting

    @liftpodcasting

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm not familiar with the COMICA AD3, but from what I was able to find online, it's likely the audio coming into your computer is the mix of both mics from the one output. One mic is on the left channel and the other is on the right channel. I believe you'll want to be sure the switch on the side is on S for Stereo (not M for Mono). If you want to edit individual tracks, you can try duplicating the track when you're done and pan one track to the left and one to the right. Here's directions on how to pan tracks: support.apple.com/guide/garageband/set-track-pan-positions-gbndf3f2f28c/mac#:~:text=In%20a%20track%20header%20in,it%20to%20the%20center%20position. I haven't used the COMICA AD3 before so I can't promise that will work, but I hope I'm sending you in the right direction!

    Have you ever had an issue with a weird echo in the tracks when you record two mics or is the master echo option you turned off supposed to correct that?

  • @liftpodcasting

    @liftpodcasting

    Жыл бұрын

    Typically the culprit is the master echo or master reverb. Another possibility is that both mics are picking up one voice, which creates a subtle echo effect. The best polar pattern for a podcast mic is cardioid, so it's not picking up sound from behind the mic. Omnidirectional mics will sound echo-y. If you're using cardioid mics, make sure they aren't too close together.

    I've never used the Commander M1, so I can't say for sure, but it's possible that it doesn't output separate tracks for each microphone, but instead outputs the stereo mix. Sometimes boards will output one mic on the right channel and the other on the left channel, if that's the case you can record them on one stereo track and then separate them into mono files.
