Hi! Great video! If you can see this, I have an Alesis DM10. It doesn’t have a mono out. It has L and R. I can plug both of those into an iRig (I have the splitter), but can’t hear my music through my phone. Please help! Thanks! Merry Christmas!

Great video! This is probably the simplest way to record covers ive found using my iphone. Do you know of any apps or anything in general where i could add a metronome to the song im covering??? im guessing by recording it your way in the video, the only con is that the iphone would pick up the metronome on the recording. Yamaha has this really cool app that goes with the Yamaha EAD10 which is basically a module for acoustic drums. The receiver hooks on to the bass drum and it has about a 4 foot range where it mics up everything within that range. And the most interesting thing to me is this specific app connects to the module from your phone and can record the audio, video, and adds a click and you can basically record covers using just that. But the only thing that sucks is the app is only for yamaha modules. And what frustrates me is that i have an Alesis Strike kit as well, and you would think there would already be some sort of music app that can record video, audio, and add a click but i cant find anything similar. I hope i explained what im looking for good enough. The app is called Rec n Share. i was hoping maybe you'd know of any apps that can do this but for alesis. Again ive never seen anything like it and im so bummed its only for yamaha products. Thanks for your time and hope you can give me your opinion on this app if you dont already know about it.

What if my e kit is Bluetooth capable? Do I need to use another phone for the mix in then?

So I have the iPhone 8 Plus. I also have the iRig HD2. I have it hooked up correctly and even with my lightening adapter plugged in, my phone is still recording ambient sound. I’m stumped why no music and no drum sounds from my module is not making it to the phone. I hear both just fine in my headphones but when I playback my recording, it sounds like the drum module isn’t even turned on. I even downloaded the iRig Recorder app and that didn’t work either. Any suggestions? I’m just looking to use my phone to record short videos for Instagram and Tik Tok and other social media.

there must be a piece of faulty gear in there. Also make sure you're updated to the latest iOS.

I wonder if you can have music on your phone via Bluetooth to the module while using that same phone to record w/ the iRig I have an Android-powered BlackBerry Key2 that I connect via Bluetooth to my TD17-KVS to play KZread videos to play along to

Does this work for the Alesis strike kit? Instead of “master output” it just has a main out (left and right). When I connect my iPhone and record I don’t hear any of the sounds from my kit or the music. This is very frustrating because all of my cables work, unless it has to be the exact brand you’re using.

Hey! Thanks for the video. For some reason, when I do exactly this same process the audio I record is very weird, specially the cymbals, it does not have reverb, each beat sounds half record... Any idea what is happening? Maybe it's record only one channel L or R, etc?

You basically just have to turn up whatever you’re playing it back on

I’m so sorry for bugging you so much! You are amazing for always responding, Since I can’t use my iPhone to record I’m wondering if I can use the irig setup but get an aux to c cable and connect that to my GoPro hero 5 session. Do you think that would work??

I’ve been trying to find a video on how to just record without listening to another song. I just want to record what I’m playing. Not play along with a song… will it still work to just omit the music device?

I have a Simmons SD5X electronic drum set. an Irig 2 with the gane control. I use it with my Galaxy note 8 cell phone that has a 3.5 MM headphones output. when I use it with my left and right audio outputs quarter inch with a dual quarter inch male input to female quarter in output adapter. even if I just output to mono I barely get any audio out of it even at full volume. it works better when I plug my Irig Into my headphones output but then I need to use a headphone splitter. which makes the volume either sound good In the In the Irig or the headphones not both at the same time. The audio will cut in and out with quality. any ideas or suggestions you have that would better help my setup would be appreciated

It's a little better, but I'm still a bit unclear on what you're doing. So, you have the irig plugged into your phone, and the output from the drum module's 1/4" output plugged into the irig and you're not getting enough volume?

is there a way I can play music & record both with my phone? I don't have another media device.

Will it work with old iPhones that have 3.5mm jack without using iRig?

With the right adapters, you need to split the headphone and mic input, the iRig just makes it easy. iRigs work on old iphones too.

Does the iRig do something special with the signal? Why couldn't you just go from L mono out into a standard adapter that plugs directly into phone?

Hi Justin. I’ve been recording with advice from yourself in which I use the mono cable to a usb in my chrome book. It’s been working great but of course being mono, with headphones it only comes out of one speaker. Are you aware of any way to make that stereo? Thanks 🙏🏻

you can't make it stereo, but you could use audacity to at least make it come out of both channels.

in this video I was recording the audio and video at the same time in the camera. Seems to be hit or miss these days though with iOS/Android updates.

Dude should this work with a TD27, an Irig Pro o/i, and iPhone 11? im not getting audio and im thinking it might be because im paying to the drum tracks that came pre loaded on my modular? Also should i be recording on the modular and the iPhone? oh, i can hear the music and the drums through the head phones plugged into the modular.

Apple basically screwed us out of being able to use an external mic with the camera app. Don't ask me why. But this no longer works.

Yes it is! You use the headphone out from the module. The mono out is going to the irig. You will hear the drums and the aux input in your headphones.

I love your recording tutorials. But I posted me playing nitro kit to a song by Doobie brothers and tic tok muted it. Question: How come I hear cover tunes being used on Tiktok and they did not get muted? And where can I find music to jam with that won't get muted? @@xzuruix Yeah, it's super frustrating. I was selling pre-made kits, then suddenly they all stopped working. Android version still works fine though!

I have an android so that's hit or miss already. But you're saying that I can't plug the iRig into my phone, record the cover and play a cover song with the song playing all on the phone? And that I have to get an external audio device that also has to be plugged in somewhere in order for the iRig to record the audio and video. That don't make any sense to me.

To me that defeats the entire purpose of having to get an iRig to record with because the iRig to me is the adapting piece that allows the audio to be recorded with the video. Otherwise without the iRig all I get is external audio recording when I record.

Would anyone know if the Irig would work on Android?

Just got my iRig today, tried connecting it to my td-17kv and iPhone 11 but no luck. Not getting any sound when I try to record. Anyone have any experience fixing this?

I tried this several times and no luck. Did you ever get it to work? I’m looking to do the same thing with posting videos to Instagram and Tik Tok.

Thanks for the video. I just ordered an Irig and a midi to usb. I’m still trying to figure out a lot of things such as where I want what and sensitivity and stuff. I wish I could hire Larry Allen to come take care of this for me. 🤣

Am I the only person with an iPhone 13 because the irig2 doesn’t work with 13 and no one on KZread or internet is even talking about it. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I would argue an iPhone is in fact a computer. But couldn't you record directly to a audio recorder too? (Like a zoom H1 using the line in 3.5mm connection)
