Zia Mohyeddin, now a legend in his lifetime, is a man of many parts. His long career spans acting, directing, writing, broadcasting and a wide range of aesthetic disciplines.
Starting as a broadcaster on Radio Pakistan, he moved later to Radio Australia, and then to the BBC. He took his degree in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London and returned to Pakistan in 1956. Despite limited audiences, he plunged into producing, directing and acting in Urdu and English plays to try and establish the institution of serious theatre in the country. Unfortunately, support from the market simply wasn’t there. Two years later he went back to London on a British Council Fellowship to study methods of directing.
In Pakistan, his highly acclaimed “Zia Mohyeddin show” became the paradigm of tasteful entertainment. Later, he accepted the post of Director at the PIA Arts Academy about which surprisingly little is known within Pakistan. ‘The challenge intrigued me!’ he says. His tutelage created a remarkable ensemble that carried the songs and dances of Pakistan to rapturous accolades of audiences in many countries.
Zia Mohyeddin is the founder of Reader’s Theatre in Pakistan. He started with short selections from English poetry which he read out over Radio and television in England.

He who has command over language, is not bound by its nomenclature. Zia Sahab’s pronunciation of English is as immaculate as of Urdu. Truly the last of the Giants.

With all due respect, Mr Khalid you are such a senior person and yet you haven't noticed that he was reciting poetry while ignoring the "Azan" in the background. Azan is more important than his stupid way of teaching poetry. people like you should raise their voices and set example of young generations, but instead you are also praising him.

Thank you Zia mohi ud din you graced Urdu language to the level of a classical language like English of shakspere Persian of Firdousi and Arabic of remote past past and present!!Urdu language is the language of the decent cultured and gentlemen people who still believe in it!!

اردو ہمیشہ سے ہی ایک "کلاسیکل" ، معیاری اور صاحبِ علم و فن کی زبان رہی ہے ۔ یہ احساسِ کمتری کے ماروں نے اس کا حال بے حال کیا ہوا ہے ۔ جو نہ پورے فرنگی ہیں اور نہ دیسی ، بلکہ کوئی الگ قبیل کے بن چکے ہیں ۔

@@Parachute880 ذرا سوچو۔ صفحہ کا عنوان انگریزی میں ہے کیوںکہ جو بھی اردو سے آراستگی کا من رکھنے والا ہے وہ اردو عنوان نہیں پڑھ پائے گا۔ تب ہی تو تعلیم کی تلاش میں ہے۔ اور جناب اگر اپ ایسی متکبر تعلیق لکھیں گے تو کم از کم صحیح اردو لکھیں - عنوان/ نام ہے، تائتل نہیں۔

Beautifully explained. This in English is called logical stress which is essential to know and use not only while you recite poetry but also in normal conversation for making your speech clearer and more effective.

And you guys didn't notic that he stopped in middle when moazin was saying ash hadu anna Muhammad ar rasoolullah" It has became our habits to criticize on everything. We should try to notice more positive things than negative. Maybe it's second or third azan in that area. Khudara itne barey barey logon pr zra zra si baat pr tanqeed krna chor deinn!! 🙏
