How to Rebuild Your Turbo!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

How to rebuild a used turbo (turbocharger) easily and cheaply. Teardown your journal bearing turbo and rebuild it. This isn't a difficult DIY, but it can drastically improve the life of your turbo and can help repair oil leaks.
Note: Do this at your own risk! I assume no responsibility for damage to your property or yourself. I do recommend that you have your turbocharger re-balanced after doing this; even if you mark the wheel/shaft location.
Happy modding!

Wow, a lot of haters. I think that was super useful as someone who hasn't rebuilt a turbo before. Despite the reverse thread explanation hate, I seemed to have understood exactly what he was trying to say. Yes, he used a metal hammer, barely tapped anything, and the world didn't end. Use a rubber mallet if you're worried about it.

You forgot the most important step. You must make marks so the wheel is on the same exact spot or it will be out of balance and take out the bearings right away. Now you have to send it in for balancing.

WOWOWO!!! Where is the torque wrench? Guys better use the right torque on the bolts and the nut!!! And if you don't want it to break again soon and complain about a bad rebuild kit just get that thing balanced before installing it. You balance you tires or not? This thing can easy spin 150.000-180.000rpm and if it is not in balance it will break fast! And please check all oil and cooling lines if they are clean! There is always an reason why they break! Like an closed return hose that fails to return the oil and the pressure blows your seal. This is only a half done Turbo repair and will not last long because important things are missing to do it right! And be aware of parts from the compressor wheel that can break and get into the combustion chamber and cause major damage to the engine!!! Please don't do it just like that!!!

They aren't exactly light, which is why people stress the importance of the manifold you use. If you buy a non cast iron manifold you're putting the weight of the turbo completely on the welds in the steel. You also don't want the manifold to hold the turbo very far away because of the leverage you create. Stress on expensive parts = bad. Blown turbo/manifold = bad.
