I've done this same repair when I was about 16 years old. That's 52 years ago for your information. Except I didn't drill and install homemade rivets. Unlike kids today, I grew up with access to old lathes, mills, etc. And the "let's go buy a new one" option was not always available in 1970's Louisiana. Or many places. But I've welded them for old pulpwood trucks, etc. And they held. Until they broke. (Remember: even the shattered axle (not jackhammer) was once new. And it broke.) And finally, that is a "floating" axle. It does NOT hold the wheel on. The wheel is on a bearing mounted to the end of the differential housing axle tube. If the axle breaks again, it will simply quit pulling on that side. Heck. The brakes will even continue working because of this design. And Yes. This Pakistani man did a good repair.

Grand parents were farmers, a lot of fix at home or at the blacksmith place (were still having to shoe horses by the time) Kept a way of thinking identical, try to fix before replacement, if it works you're good, if you can't at least you did train and get better skills.

It’s a full floating axle, it will be fine. Mad respect!! Do what you have to, used to be the American way.

You missed a big point ... what you think those shafts are made of ? I think high quality steel won't rot inside out. ... Plus those Bolts they used is high grade steel so joint is stronger than the actual shaft ... May be couple of dudes made that on locally using commonly available steel or something ...

As someone who is learning how to weld, stick welding with a fixed shade is hard enough now add in the fact that you have to hold the shade.

Axel is also supposed to work as a fuse, to prevent further damage to drive unit it is designed to snap. This happens when it's drive torque exceeds it's load or has simply aged. With this repair (beautifully done) guarantee next will be power train repairs. But hey as long as you get another mile out it...

Sometime back, the front axle of my jeep snapped at the knuckle of the universal joint. The nearest spare parts shop is about 25 kms away. The road condition requires 4wd to pass through. Fortunately, there was a local welder nearby, I took out the shaft and he welded back the knuckle to the axle shaft. I proceeded with my journey driving slowly and cautiously, and thankfully, the weld held strong enough until I got to the spare parts shop. In an emergency situation, it's helpful.

I’ll explain quickly why this is dangerous, the welds are actually fairly strong, the problem is the heat from the welding will weaken the surrounding metal pretty significantly.

No way this axle is co-axial or balanced now. This most probably will cause vibration and extensive wear at some speed. The original part broke and the fixed one is not stronger.

Balance, an axle😂. It is supported on either extreme end by a bearing. As long as it doesn’t have a lot of runout in the middle you would never know. And, they had it in the lathe so they know it doesn’t have any runout. Also, I doubt the truck that’s from ever sees much over 50-60 MPH or
