Nah, I came here from Reddit
Reading my opponents' games is one of my favourite thing to do. I play against 3-4 different players every week so luckily I get to practice this part of my game quite abit. I'm still not good at reading my opponents' games but I thoroughly enjoy the process of getting better at it. Thank you, Jenny and Greg 😊

It's an amazing feeling when you get it right 😆
Aloha Greg and Jenny, another awesome video. As a senior player, being able to read my opponent's game assists in anticipating their returns. Position, grip, racquet position and angle of an opponent is a great tell. You guys have covered all the bases on this critical aspect of the game. I also take note of all of those things after their reply. e.g. many times an opponent does not return to center court, is caught admiring their shot and is not ready to receive your return, or is just leaning in a specific direction, setting up an opportunity to exploit this weakness. Training oneself to do this gives you a huge advantage, as you mentioned players always go to shots they are fond of, despite being countered successfully they still insist on hitting them. I keep a mental note of the habits of my club members, turning their assets into liabilities as they repeat the same shots that can be easily countered. Surprisingly few players attempt to be unpredictable, anticipation becomes a sixth sense on the court if you take the time to practice and develop it. Again TMI, sorry, the beauty of predicting and anticipating an opponent is mental, challenging, and rewarding. So thrilled you covered this. Thanks. Stay well. You are the best.
Wow I have never thought about some of these things, especially that example at the end! So simple and definitely one of the big differentiators between low level and high level badminton - Amazing video! 😀

I got the same thought while watching. Seems like the key difference between an intermediate player and an advanced player. The value of your lessons is really high, as most other channels focus on cool trick shots but fail to cover the basics of the game.

I would love to know were my opponents are standing when I'm looking on the shuttle coming from above (i.e. after the lift). Do you have any tips for this? Also I would expect that there could be an advanced version of this video were you could give some patterns on how to act in certain situations (based on game reading): where to hit, where to stand, where to run and so on (like in this example in the end). Anyway many thanks for this great content!

Would you say you alternate from watching the shuttle to watching the opponent for cues as to what shot they'll hit and where? Or should the focus always be on the shuttle, with the opponent's movements in the periphery?
Thank you for this! This is one of the things I'm still struggling to figure out.

hi would love some effective set shot routines in doubles...e.g. like setiawan pushes low serve to his forehand and waits for the reply on forehand. or the boe mogensen set play. TIA :)
hi have you got any tips on defending a smash to the body I mean if I’m holding the racket in my left hand and a player decide to smash the shuttle to the left hand side off my body where I hold the racket, I find it nearly impossible to return the smash as I find it tricky to get enough power to return the smash from the angle

Very good indeed. Can you make a review of insoles in some badminton shoes( from Yonex, Victor,...). Personally, I’m using Yonex shoes but I feel a bit uncomfortable with those pair of ínoles, and I want to change but I have no idea to choose. Love from Vietnam! (My english isn’t good, sorry if there’re any mistake.)
Love from india ❤️
Interesting video, way, way advanced for the mere mortal because you first need to understand how to play the 'good shot' much less recognize that you played one. A lot of drilling required to get this one.
@BadmintonInsight
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's definitely a skill that will come with time! But it's important to practice from the start, and not just think it's something you can practice ONLY when you're 'good'!
When do you look at your opponent and when to look at the shuttle? I always find it hard to look where the opponent stands because I focus too much on the shuttle. At what exact time do you watch your opponent? Before you run? After you run? Before you hit? After you hit?
Could you guys make a updated equipment review?
