How to Read PLC Schematics and Diagram
In Part 1 of this video series, you’ve learned how to read and understand a wiring diagram of an industrial control panel and in this part, we’re going to continue with the PLC part of that same control panel to learn about some PLC wiring best practices.
👉 To watch Part 1 head to ▶ upmation.com/wiring-diagrams/
In this PLC circuit diagram example, we'll go through different pages of an actual PLC wiring diagram document.
First of all, you'll see how we should power up a PLC CPU and its digital and analog cards.
Second of all, you learn about the communication ports of the PLC and its remote IOs such as Profibus ports.
Then we check to see which common devices are wired up to our digital input card and digital output card.
We'll also check an analog output card of a Siemens S7 300 PLC and during this investigation, you'll see how a VFD is connected to a PLC in a wiring diagram.
All in all, you will get to know the PLC control panel wiring diagram better than before and become more efficient in your industrial automation career.

@@jasonbourne2171 I worked my ass off in the same industry and built contacts that lead me to a job that eventually lead me to an apprenticeship offer.
Brilliant... I worked as an electrical maintenance engineer after my apprenticeship and did plenty on Allen Bradley PLC 2 & Telemecanique. A lot of the machines were big old transfer lines from the 60's and 70's and had huge cupboards with old relay control systems. When PLC 2 came along it was cutting edge stuff. Miss those days.

Hi Gusain! Thanks for your comment! We already have communicated with the manufacturer company to see if we can share the whole document with our follower and subscribers like you. But at the end of the day, if we did not receive any positive answer, I assume we can share at least the pages we have discussed in this video and part 1. Till then you can read and see the step by step article here: upmation.com/plc-wiring-diagram/
Love your videos, however, can you check between 1 minute 50 seconds and 2 minutes to see if you have made a mistake when labelling the 24v, OV and earth cabling to the PLC. It's obviously minor but I would like to know for clarity. Thanks!

3:00 profibus cable is normally Violet color (could be black also, and other special variants), and the two wires in cable are red and green.
Thank you friend for your video it helped me a lot to get started in the world of plc programming, ask what software you use to create the electrical plans and what is the standard for the electrical plans. Thank you
@Upmation
2 жыл бұрын
Hey! You're very welcome! The software that is used to create these electrical diagrams is EPLAN and the standard is IEC.
Coming from someone without much electrical experience, can you do a video explaining commonly used wiring diagram/electrical schematic symbols? I know they might vary by software by there should be common symbols that most companies would use, right?
@Upmation
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course. Actually, the more you work with wiring diagrams, the more you become familiar with the symbols and you'll recognize the symbols easily even if they are from different software. It's due to the circuit similarities and common devices (and therefore symbols). So don't worry about it I will transfer your suggestion to the tech team as well for a video about these symbols.
