I do the exact same thing. And I have trouble remembering what note is what in the music book. I am beginning to think that I am not going to be able to do this. My music teacher says that, even though I am mixing up notes from 4 & 5 lessons ago, she wants to continue on. When continuing on is just confusing and getting me discouraged even more. She says that one day it will all just sink in. Well, what if it doesn't?

She brings the comfortability of a kindergarten teacher, while simultaneously not talking down at her audience/students 😊🤟🏻🤙🏻

Learning the piano is not as hard as you think. Just learn how to read music. Learn what the keys are, and your good to go. No one taught me how to play it. I play music by Beethoven, Chopin, and Scott Joplin. Yet I learned on my own.

When I was learning to read sheet music, I remember the different tricks for remembering the note placement. "Every good boy does fine", for the lines and " all cows eat grass" for the spaces. I still use them.

Yes. As someone who has never read music before in my life (42 years old), never played an instrument, this was easy to understand!

PoV : my coach is teaching stuff like Every green bus drives fast and FACE and stuff like that. He wasted 2 hrs teaching me still I did not understand. She teaches me in 10 mins and I understand….. Hats off ❤❤

I’m color blind, dyslexic and generally slow but the way you’ve laid this lesson out is the best possible way to learn notation. I’ve been trying for months and your simple way of looking at notation just opened my eyes to it all. Thank you. Truly, I will pass it along. RS.

I am two days into my piano learning journey. So far I've become addicted to how amazing you can make something sound, simply by pressing some randomly made up keys in a nice pattern. I believe reading sheet music will really help me with piano, and this video has been just perfect. Really straight forward, visual instructions (which personally help me a lot), and a kind relaxing voice. Really well made instructional video, thank you!

I totally understand. My sister had an amazing teacher. By the time I started piano lessons, the teacher had retired. I never did learn to play very well. This lesson was helpful. I’d love to really learn since I now have a beautiful piano just sitting.

We had a piano when I was growing up. My mother played beautifully and I had always wanted to learn. When I was 7, she arranged for me to take lessons and I was SO excited! My enthusiasm was quickly squashed when, instead of the 15-30 minutes my teacher recommended, my mother would make me practice for 2-3 hours at a time. It sucked the fun out of learning and I quit after just a few weeks. Trying to learn now, over 45 years later and it's much more difficult.

I totally understand what you mean! I signed up for piano lessons this year since I've had my keyboard for 10 years and never properly learned how to play it on my own. I thought going to an actual music school with a teacher would be the answer but the first class was such a let down. The first month is almost over and we still haven't learned how to read notes! He shows up late, tells students to learn songs from youtube videos and is literally incapable of explaining concepts. I literally had to watch videos on how to properly position my hands on the piano because he couldn't even explain that to me. He is the type of person to "show" you a concept rather than explain it. He talks a lot but doesn't say anything at all. Honestly just because someone can play the piano doesn't mean they can teach how to play it.

Played/ lessons for abt 2.5 yrs when I was 10. You ** have brought me back up to speed with your practical and easy way of looking at the bar graph. Will be following.

This is actually really helpful! It has been years since I was able to read sheet music, and watching your video made it feel a lot less intimidating. Thank you so much!!

Honestly when I wanted to learn my first song in the piano I saw the sheet notes of the song and thought that now I can finally learn this song but then I just was blown away by the difficulty level of understanding it. I almost quit but then I spent learnt to understand it by seeing this video. Thnx a lot.

All The Young Artists learning How to read a note isn’t hard. Playing with actually Good technique is. I know people who’ve Taken piano classes for about 7 years and they still can’t play Beethoven but people in simple piano are playing it in like 3 weeks

I love sight reading, it makes me forget about all the other stresses in my life and focus on improving my sight reading skills. It's not easy but it's really rewarding to get it right.

Thank you so much; I’ve always felt it was “cheating” to work out the notes by skipping up/down, rather than knowing them by heart and being able to rattle them off lol. Also it makes so much sense when you relate them to landmarks. As an adult learning the piano, this has given me a lot more confidence. Can’t wait to watch your part 2

This approach to identify and learn the landmark notes is a such an effective way no matter what instrument you learn… SIncere thanks to this teacher - the best so far I have come across - both offline and online.. Finally sight reading isn’t a challenge no more..! Cheers and sincere thanks yet again! Now whether cows continue to eat grass or not, I am beginning to point a note when I see one…

I just need you to know that I took piano lessons for 10 years and NEVER learned to read music. I learned every acronym ever and it just resulted in me spending hours working out what each note was via the acronym. I understand music better after this 10 minute video than I did after 10 solid years of grueling practice. Thank you so much for this!!

At age 52 I am back at lessons because I too never learned to read a note in my early years as a child. To play by ear I have come to realize is both a blessing and a curse. Not too fond of learning to site read but here I am doing it. Thanks for the visual you provide.

Wow, thank you for showing me how middle C ties in with the rest of the notes. I got an electronic keyboard for Christmas, and I've never played piano before. I was struggling with trying to relearn sight reading the notes, but your video has helped a lot. Also, seeing how the treble and bass cliffs interact was extremely helpful.

I use to know how to sight read but its been so long I forgot and her just saying "our musical alphabet runs from A to G and repeats itself" just saved my life and made me understand again

Been learning piano since my childhood, and everyone, including my teacher thinks i can read sheet music. In reality i just play by ear and memorisation. I’m to embarrassed to say anything, lol.

I have dyslexia and have always had a hard time reading sheet music so I just learned everything by ear. I finally decided to try and focus on learning to read music and your video helped me to understand where I should put my hands, on the piano since it was never clear to me what octave to play in. Great video 👍👍

I just followed the part two of this your lesson on how to read notes. I must confess there’s a lot of logic and chronology in your style of doing things. You bring your amazing personality into the lessons, and I must tell you that’s superb!! I could watch your videos all day without getting discouraged or bored; you’re just that perfect piano teacher 👏👏

Well explained to someone like myself that has never read sheet music. I'm just starting out so this will really help! Thanks for an easy lesson!

@@kate6805 well depends on what you want to learn. I think it's just fine for children who wants to get started but it's not teaching techniques and theory. it's better to get a real teacher I think.

@@kate6805 I don't know if simply piano teaches chords but there are many helpful KZread tutorials. ofc it's your choice, but I think KZread tutorials can be just as helpful as simply piano

This year (2020); I am going to be going back to a hobby that I missed, in a VERY VERY long time! And that is, playing musical instruments!🙂 I haven't played an instrument in roughly 10 years! I’ve watched so many videos on reading notes and was still so confused about why each note was placed where it was. The way it is explained in this video makes it so clear and easy to understand. Amazing. Thank you

I’ve been a guitarist for over 20 years with no formal training…I did take a beginner piano course at a Junior College about 17 year ago to fulfill some sort of requirements…I have usually had a piano or some sort of keys around and have always just gravitated towards Fmin or playing all black keys…I have really bad habits, (I.E. I let my pinky on my left hand hang off the piano and my thumb on my tight hand hangs off as well, I can’t read by sight, but by chords)….so I thank you for this video, it is nice to get a refresher crash course in the basics. After over 20 years as a guitar player and always aspiring towards being a keys player, this is extremely helpful!!
