Good you did this ! This advice should be somewhere in the big books. I've seen this tip on another youtube video but before that i was reading without stretching the spine. Fortunately I didn't had big books (700+ pages) at that time so my books are ok. It's really important for the larger books. Cool to see your videos again ! 3 this week ! That's cool. I'm moving too this month and with so many books it's a pain. Be careful with your back. I use small boxes with 15 books in each so it's not too heavy.

Good tip. I messed up my Big Damn Sin City's spine when I first got it by just cracking it open to check it out. It's not too bad, but I notice the crease. It was one of my first Omnibi style books so I Googled how not to wreck the spines after than and found a picture describing the process. But it's good to see it in action, I didn't realize that creating the pocket between the sewing and the spine was the objective of this process. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Riley, I recently purchased Xmen AOA used from ebay and the book has the similar spine problem as your Thor Omni. It outer spine bends in toward the stitching rather than staying curved. Do you know if there is any way to fix this at all? I haven't read it yet and dont want to damage the book worse. Thanks!

  • @jared433

Do you put anything under the pages of your omnibi when storing them standing on a shelf? I've heard that having them standing causes the pages to tear from the binding.

I use this technique BUT Instead Of spreading pages one by one like in the video, I just press my thumb on the edges of the pages and spread them by releasing my thumbs from the pages one by one but in a fast pace so I don’t waste time and in the end it absolutely works from avoiding to the damage the spine

I started reading my infinity gaunlet and then found this video, I have tried this but the spine already seems like it's going to get ruined. It won't get that lip that you get on yours, even after doing what you said. Hopefully if I keep doing this it will rectify itself.

Hi, i recently bought amazing spiderman classic 1 (i live in italy so things arrives much later unfortunatly). I read 1 hour the first 30/40 pages with the spine down on a pillow (i was laying the big side on mi hand on like 30/45 degrese and let the other one on its own) will it effect negativetly the book? Also i see the hard cover agles pointing a little bit downwords (not very much, only if you know it you will notice it). I will be very happy if anyone can tell me if it's gping to be ok ot not😁.

ORRRR just get your self an iPad and read it digitally. I honestly like it better. I can lay down, read it in the dark, do whatever I want. The quality is great and the colors are very accurate. I miss having comics on my shelf but I noticed I would just buy comics and not even read them just for the asthetic and didn't want to risk damage them. At least now I actually read them.

And this is the "great" Marvel's binding? It's worse than DC's one, and just for the record, that's not the proper way to read an omnibus, it's not i tented to be opened 180°, more than 90° will damage it.
