    So happy you said "skipped past the 'Who We Are' section" -- I've been feeling guilty for doing that and am glad to know that's what others are doing as well!

    NO BS coming from Mrs. Miller. It helps you figure out whether you’re qualified for the role and how to tailor your cover letter and resume to beat the applicant tracking systems (ATS).

    I have a BS in CS and a BBA in Finance and 8+ years in IT/Tech, Amy! If I lived in Washington, I may have applied for that job you're describing. 😊 You need to be a U.S. Citizen to work for any defense company through the feds contracts.

    It's great to hear that what I did while applying for the last job is literally what you said I would do in this video. Thank you, Mrs. Miller, for confirming the information, I really appreciate that. But the thing I can't understand is that if there are several people who have 100% of the job requirements and you can't communicate with all of them. On what basis you choose the people you communicate with first and who should wait?... Because a month and a half has passed and still my application status is "submitted".

    AWESOME video!!! I have 2 lingering questions. 1. How do you handle job statements such as "Strong organizational, project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills" or "Self-directed and highly motivated" on a resume? Or do you leave that off and hope for a phone screening to flush it out? 2. If citizenship is asked on all the applications/ATS, is it still necessary to include the words on a resume and where/how?

  • @AmyMiller

    @AmyMiller

    If citizenship is a knockout question you’re good I would not worry about it. I wouldn’t worry about those words in the JD - resumes are for hard skills, interviews are for soft skills. I’ll do a follow up video next week 😉

    Wow, this was super helpful! I was focused on using Chat GPT to highlight the keywords and phrases for me to integrate into my resume but this method is much less time exhaustive. What is your approach on catering your career summary and core competencies to the job posting? Thank you, Amy. I feel much more informed.

    What do you think about ignoring a BS/BA requirement for non-STEM positions? I get that the degree is totally necessary in something like EE - that would be scary to have someone designing circuits without formal training. But in my world (RevOps), a lot of hiring managers find experience more important. They’ll still put the degree in the JD, but often it’s not a true requirement. I’ve asked a lot of them and only a few are strict about it. Anecdotal I know, but it’s what I’ve found. Curious if you’ve had a different experience.

  • @AmyMiller

    As someone without a degree myself I push HARD for “or equivalent experience” as a loophole to remain compliant 😉

    What goes through your mind when you have a person apply for multiple roles at the same time that you are hiring for, but the applicant possesses 80%+ qualifications for both roles? Does that show lack of career focus, or is it more of a compliment to the company?
